Overview:

The Forensic Nurse Examiner provides forensic physical assessment and evidence collection to patients who are victimized by sexual assault, aged 13 and older, and interpersonal violence for all ages. This includes injury and photo documentation, crisis intervention and prophylactic medications with referrals as appropriate. The F.N.E. is expected to provide fact testimony for judicial proceedings. The F.N.E. must meet annual criteria to maintain certification (200 hours, 3 exams, 8 hours continuing education), as well as annual OSHA, PPD and Mercy mandatory requirements.

Qualifications:

Education and Work Experience:

Must possess a high school diploma or GED

Must have at minimum a BSN degree in nursing

Must have 18 months experience in nursing in any field (preferably emergency/ trauma, women's health experience)

License Requirements:Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing in the State of Maryland

Certification Requirements:

FNE-A (Forensic Nurse Examiner) Certification in good standing

Must have current Healthcare Provider Level CPR certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following:

Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel

Microsoft Outlook

Meditech (if applicable to position)

Epic (if applicable to position)

Performance Manager/NetLearning

Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.

Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.

Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.

Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

Other Requirements:

Injury assessment and documentation

Basic photography skills

Good communication skills

Must be able to work collaboratively with the State's Attorney's office, law enforcement and patient advocates.

Duties in environment with frequent exposure to potential violent situations and foul language.

Maintain patient confidentiality

Basic phlebotomy skills

Possess skills for precepting and mentoring FNE candidates;

Care and maintenance of all forensic equipment including cameras, ALS equipment, batteries, and GYN lights including inventory of equipment;

Must be active in one or more committees within the FNE Program;

Must exhibit independent practice, motivation and structure;

Will be responsible for stocking and organization of forensic exam rooms;

Must possess strong skills in forensic assessment and documentation;

Must possess strong photographic skills;

Must possess basic phlebotomy skills;

Good communication skills for integration with units house wide;

Must be able to work collaboratively with the Office of the States Attorney, law enforcement and patient advocates, and;

Must be willing to serve in this part time role for a probationary term of one year
