We are looking for Registered Nurses to join Unit 6AB (Multi-Organ Transplant and Medical Specialties) on a full-time basis (including NRG component of FTE) to provide family-centered nursing care to children along the continuum of care.

What do we do in the Multi-Organ Transplant and Medical Specialties (6AB) Inpatient Unit?

6AB is a 40-bed Level II Critical Care acute medical-surgical inpatient setting with 7 distinct but inter-related medical services, including solid organ transplantation (Liver/Intestine/Kidney/Lung), Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology and the program for Gastro-intestinal Function and Treatment (GIFT). We serve a uniquely complex population of patients and families challenged with life-altering acute and chronic illnesses that require focused and highly skilled management along a continuum of health services both in Hospital and in the community.

Given the breadth and depth of exposure to many interrelated systems and services, 6AB provides an excellent foundation for those aspiring for developing toward future careers in critical care, emergency department, operating room, clinical teaching, leadership/management and advanced nursing practice (e.g.

CNS, APN, NP, etc.) As an RN at SickKids there are many opportunities for career development including Critical Care Nursing, Acute Care Transport, Research, Education, Leadership, Advanced Practice, and more.

we advance our nurses based on performance and aptitude to train in specialized and highly sought-after skills such as pediatric peritoneal dialysis, organ transplantation and level 2 critical care.

We offer cross-training opportunities in pediatric hemodialysis, apheresis and support for certification in pediatric nursing through the Canadian Nurses Association (CpedN(C)). 6AB nurses may also train for unit-based leadership opportunities in a Clinical Support Nurse capacity, a group which functions with enhanced autonomy and navigational leadership amongst an interprofessional team.
