PORTER JOB DESCRIPTION

Iowa Sports Management's Porters are responsible for the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the facility. The ideal candidate for this position is self-motivated, detail oriented, and is flexible within the position. Daily tasks include sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming the entire facility, as well as deep cleaning all of the gym equipment.

Primary Tasks

Responsible for facility maintenance to ensure the facility remains a safe, clean, and friendly environment for all patrons.

Be alert and present to prevent accidents from occurring in the facility while also handling emergency cleaning and upkeep requests.

Be familiar with the set-up of the facility and maintain the position of all equipment – return the equipment to its neutral position after cleaning the surrounding areas.

Being attentive to details and keeping even the smallest spots clean throughout the day.

Deep clean and stock the bathrooms and locker rooms.

Sweep, mop, and vacuum the entire facility daily.

Clear out trash and recycling receptacles while keeping the policies of the facility in mind.

Deep clean all gym equipment using proper cleansers, and scrub areas that need attention.

Need to have a basic knowledge of chemicals and their uses and properties.

Constant communication with facility manager.

Secondary Tasks

A little service goes a long way; learn members’ routines and habits - e.g.: if you know that the resident always uses a stretching mat, take one out for them.

Be available to substitute for other staff members.

Remain thoroughly apprised and familiar with all ISM and client policies and procedures.

Carry out additional duties as assigned by the facility manager and supervisors.

Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings as scheduled.

Being readily available to assist patrons in a professional manner.

Be proactive – if there is a hazard anywhere in the facility, notify facility manager and correct the situation.

Qualifications Needed

Ability to be on your feet for up to 40 hours per week and lift in excess of 50 lbs.

Self-motivated with the ability to work without constant supervision.

Available to work some weekends and holidays.

Strong attention to detail.

Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

Ability to interact professionally with patrons regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues.
