Summary of Position:

Under limited or no supervision, the Compression Technician III position encompasses a higher level of responsibility for the daily operations of assigned gas compressors, VRUs, flares, combustors, and burner management systems equipment, including the identification of problems or potential problems; documenting and reporting; minor repairs, and/or assistance in the repair of equipment.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Operate company owned and vendor owned compression assets including conventional gas lift compressors, VRUs, and boosters.

Assist with troubleshooting mechanical and operational issues, assist with emission testing and ensuring vendor compliance, and ensure that proper maintenance is being performed on company owned and vendor owned compression assets.

Work closely with and offer knowledge and experience on compression assets to the production team and lease operators.

Perform or assist with mechanical maintenance on company owned VRUs, flares, combustors, and burner management systems equipment under minimal supervision.

Ensure that vendor owned compression assets are consistently maintained and that quality repairs are made in a safe and timely manner.

Ensure that any repeat issues receive the appropriate amount of emphasis and hold vendors accountable for reaching resolutions.

Maintain open communication with manager, the production team, and the compression vendors.

Relay information between departments as necessary.

Be able to read and verify dimensions, specifications, and tolerances using blueprints as they pertain to compressor pad design and equipment placement.

Contact, direct, supervise, and assist vendors, roustabout crews, and trainees as necessary.

Prepare and provide compression related reports daily (e.g., inlet/discharge psi readings, daily MCF, issues/faults,).

Perform basic to intermediate level pumping skills which will include but is not limited to tank gauging, the proper operation of 3 phase gas separators, line heaters, and all attendant valve and oil seals and seal records.

Work in all weather conditions including rain, snow, mud, etc. – work is performed in hazardous driving and working conditions all seasons of the year.

Operate a vehicle safely in all weather conditions to drive to oil and gas equipment located in rural/open range country.

Perform on-the-job training for less experienced technicians and operators.

Hold all vendors and contract employees to CIVI safety and regulatory standards while on CIVI locations.

Follow safe operating practices and ensure compliance with all CIVI environment, safety and regulatory requirements.

Assure all work performed adheres to CIVI standards.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

Strong technical and mechanical competencies with the ability to troubleshoot and assist in the repair of compressor package components, engines, flares, combustors, and process equipment.

Extensive knowledge of gas compression and processing equipment.

Strong technical knowledge on compressor sets, make-readies, commissions, preventative maintenance, quad-o’s, overhauls, and basic operations.

Experience with Ariel, Gemini, Arrow, and CIP frames preferred.

Experience with sertcos, screw compressors, compressor station operations, and low- and high-pressure compressor applications.

Knowledge on the theory, application, usage, and operation of VRUs, flares, combustors, and burner management systems equipment.

Ability to read schematics, diagrams, and blueprints.

Basic computer skills (e.g., e-mail, Word, Excel).

Ability to walk along open range/country, dirt roads, inclines/declines, etc. to reach equipment and climb in/out of ditches.

Ability to repair and assist in the repair of equipment as needed and read equipment gauges on large scale compressor station equipment.

Ability to lift 80 lbs. and maneuver heavy objects and operate machinery.

Able to multi-task and meet stringent deadlines with a positive and helpful “can-do” attitude.

Demonstrate knowledge of safe work behavior and habits

Ability to work independently and effectively with a diverse group.

Work well with all field team members along with all office support needs.

Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED required.

7-8+ years in gas compression, production operations, or adjacent fields.

Trade school or undergraduate degree preferred but not required.

Travel Requirements:

Regular travel to field locations required for both the Midland and Delaware Basins.
