Paralegal

Major Function

The Bezos Earth Fund is seeking an experienced paralegal to provide a broad range of transactional, corporate governance and compliance-related support to the organization. A key member of the legal team, the paralegal will work with colleagues across the organization to advance its goals of protecting nature, stabilizing the climate, and promoting a just transition to sustainable global economy. The position offers the opportunity to engage with thought leaders in a range of technical and philanthropic fields, working domestically and globally. The successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic and capacity to work independently while demonstrating an ability to be a team player who always maintains a high degree of professionalism. They should be a strong communicator with the ability to manage several cross-functional relationships and interactions. The ideal candidate will be a proactive thinker with a high attention to detail and the aptitude to prioritize tasks and take initiative to improve processes where needed.

Key Responsibilities

The paralegal will have the following core responsibilities -

Serve as an essential support in workflows between various operations functions (grants management, contracts management and finance) and the legal department, identifying items requiring attorney input.

Assist with reviewing, and revising service contracts, grant agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.

Assist operations teams in the development of standard processes and tools to ensure that contracts are prepared accurately, efficiently, and timely.

With attorney oversight, research and interpret regulations, laws, guidelines, and relevant case law to partner with and support program and operations teams in making substantive business decisions.

Help ensure organizational compliance with various registration and reporting requirements.

Maintain electronic legal department files that are intuitively organized and easy to navigate.

Interface with outside counsel and other external collaborators, as needed.

Calendar and monitor critical dates and deadlines.

Prepare presentation materials and assist with strategic projects, as needed.

Assist with other administrative tasks as may be required.

Education and experience

Bachelor's degree or ABA approved paralegal certification.

A minimum of 7 years of experience in a legal environment, including contract work in a nonprofit or corporate setting.

Strong computer skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization internally and externally.

Autonomous and self-motivated work ethic; demonstrating sound judgment, initiative, and an ability to manage multiple priorities.

Demonstrate an ability to handle matters of a sensitive and confidential nature, and the capacity to maintain composure while working under pressure.

Dependable and well-organized with a strong attention to detail and quality.

Ability to identify, recommend and implement process improvements, as needed.

Knowledge of legal terminology, procedures and use of computer-based research tools and resources.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

May require extended hours for urgent issues or to meet established deadlines.

This position is based in Washington D.C.

Salary Range: $115,000 - $135,000
