Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for a broad range of communication initiatives for NASA’s Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate (ESDMD) at NASA Headquarters in Washington D.C.; Responsible for speech writing and/or development of messaging and talking points for senior leaders
Build relationships with NASA stakeholders and provide communication support for ESDMD
Handle multiple and complex projects simultaneously under tight timelines and changing priorities/relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks
Provide recommendations for Agency strategic communications processes
Research, strategize, integrate, and execute communication strategies, plans, and message management processes
Document communications strategies
Use assessment results in the development, enhancement, and innovation of effective strategic communication channels and venues which deliver the knowledge gained from environmental monitoring.
Provide analysis and assessments of the internal and external environments in which NASA operates and identifies relevant issues and trends
Develop and implement communication plans for utilization across a variety of platforms
Write and edit communication products and measure the success of the products
Coordinate and integrate communication approaches and products across multiple communication disciplines and platforms
Support developing and integrating key messages into communication products and/or services conveying understandable, credible, and repeatable core messages to audiences
Generate routine and/or ad-hoc reports for OCOMM management/OCOMM customers
Directly interface with OCOMM management and/or OCOMM customers, as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in journalism, multimedia, communications, or other appropriate area of specialization from an accredited college or university
Must have 15 years of relevant experience
5 years of NASA experience preferred
Some experience with social media management required
Advanced oral and written communications, including writing and editing
Proficient in AP style
Advanced problem-solving skills
May be required to undergo a standard background check along with verification of education requirements
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described herein are representative of those which may need to be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Employees must possess the ability to work in an office environment.
If required, employees must be able to operate a motor vehicle which may require sitting for prolonged periods of time to visit other company sites. Must have hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. This position may require an employee to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance, reach, push, and pull. The employee may also be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
