Department Description

The HPU SRC completes multiple survey research projects each semester including the HPU Poll—a statewide public opinion survey. The SRC provides professional development opportunities for students; serves High Point, North Carolina, and the U.S. by publishing important findings about public opinion North Carolina and beyond; and promotes student, staff, and faculty research. Findings from the studies have been reported in publications like the New York Times, Washington Post, Politico, FoxNews.com, and the Huffington Post/Pollster.com as well as academic journals.

Job Description

The research assistant position will report to the directors of the Survey Research Center and perform research and administrative duties on different research projects, including, but not limited to:

Research Assistants from all majors may train and serve in the Survey Research Center.

Research Assistants are involved in all aspects of the High Point University Polls and other research projects on behalf of the HPU SRC and other departments in an internship-like experience.

Process and manage data by entering, transcribing, coding, and analyzing quantitative survey data and qualitative focus group and interview data using Excel and SPSS.

Analyze data and contribute to summary reports, articles, and conference presentations to disseminate project findings.

Schedule, attend, and contribute to research project team meetings.

Conduct literature reviews using online databases.

In coordination with directors and other members of the project team, compile and create survey, focus group, and interview instruments and materials.

Collect data by creating and deploying surveys using Qualtrics survey software, and scheduling focus groups and interviews.

Manage IRB submissions for research projects and complete IRB training.

Job Location/ Hours Required

The candidate will perform most/all job duties remotely with weekly meetings with the directors of the SRC; this position may require up to 10 hours per week; the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours.

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

Must have a minimum 2.4 GPA to remain in the Student Employment Program

Students must possess high levels of personal honesty and integrity

Be in good academic and conduct standing with the university

Time-management; attention to detail; independent and efficient

Experience with Excel or other database management software a plus
