Our team is partnered with a private market investment firm in Chicago whose Fund Accounting team is growing! Seeking a Fund Accountant to join this collaborative group that is combining deep expertise with an entrepreneurial approach to multi-asset class investing. This role will give you the opportunity to play a strategic role in the investment world.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly accounting and reporting packages, including fund-level net asset values and investor capital statements for the firm's private credit and equity investment funds
Process bank transactions including the monitoring and reconciliation of monthly loan collections, fund distributions, fund expenses, while maintaining such activity in the general ledger
Provide financial information and reporting to internal management, external counterparties, and investors
Coordinate investor transactions including subscriptions and redemptions with fund administrator
Monitor expense budgets and accruals
Coordinate with external auditors on agreed-upon procedures work and annual audits/financial statement preparation
Collaborate on projects to improve overall efficiencies and accounting procedures
Interact with senior management, corporate accounting, operations, analysts, and legal
Assist in Corporate Accounting filing obligations
Required skills and qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required. CPA or CPA-eligible with intention to obtain certification preferred.
4+ years of fund accounting or audit experience; with at least 2 years at a Big 4 or Top Tier Public Accounting firm
Knowledge of U.S generally accepted accounting principles and procedures for private investment funds, including experience with fund-level accounting and reporting
Working knowledge of investment and fund performance metrics, distributions and capital calls calculations (if exposed to private equity)
Possess strong analytical skills required in reviewing, researching, and resolving issues surrounding accounting and financial matters.
Exposure to complex fund structures, waterfall calculations, performance calculations (IRRs), distributions and capital calls calculations is a plus
Experience with annual external reporting (audited financial statements)
Strategic thinker with the ability to master both the details and the big picture.
Ability to operate independently and handle many projects at once without losing track of the details.
Someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, has an excellent work ethic and likes to take ownership of your work
