Position Summary: The Delegating Physician Consultant is responsible for the nurse protocol and agrees to be available for immediate consultation with the nurse practitioner. Per GA scope of practice, the delegating physician consultant is held legally responsible for all medical acts performed by the NP. Conducts a review of medical records for patients treated by the NP as well as observe the nurse practitioner onsite at least quarterly. Collaborates with the Executive Director, Clinical Directors, and a multi-discipline team to ensure the best possible clinical outcomes for our clients.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, Training & Travel Requirements

Education: Medical Degree as a Doctor of Medicine with board certification in Psychiatry. Holds current, unencumbered license to practice medicine in the state of Georgia and is not barred from providing services to Medicare, Medicaid, MCOs or Private Insurance Carriers.

Work experience: Has sufficient training and experience in psychiatry to provide administrative and medical services for clients with psychiatric, behavioral and substance use disorders. Has sufficient training and experience to supervise Advanced Practices Nurses (APNs) who are Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Organized and Approachable with a well-balanced view of psychiatry. Possesses the training and expertise to supervise PMHNPs who are treating pediatric, adolescent, and adult clients.

Essential Duties

Provide physician supervision as outlined in a collaborative practice agreement (CPA) between Physician and Advance Practice Nurses (APN’s) of Access Mental Health Agency of Georgia. Review the CPA annually with the APRN.

When requested, participate in the multidisciplinary process for, development of individualized master treatment plans, treatment plan updates, charting of treatment planning progress, recertification as needed and the discharge plan and discharge date of Program patients.

Perform Medication Management for Access Mental Health Agency and its subsidiaries and review and sign service orders.

Collaborate with the Executive Director to carry out any appropriate duties and responsibilities required to meet the administrative and clinical needs of the licensed Program.

Physician shall perform the duties in accordance: federal, state, and local statutes, rules and regulations applicable to either Company or Physician; generally accepted standards of Physician’s practice specialty; the professional and ethical standards of the American Medical Association and Georgia Medical Board; the applicable standards and requirements of the Joint Commission, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and/or other applicable accreditation bodies; the bylaws, Corporate Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, policies, procedures, and practices of Company.
