Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Job Overview:

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will be under the supervision of the Residential Nurse Manager. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will provide assistance to individuals with mental illness helping them with. Daily activities such as vacuuming, washing, dishes, doing laundry, bathing, dressing, medication administration, shopping, transport, etc. Ensuring safety, being positive, and engaging with the individuals. Help improve the quality of life and. Encourage them in social activities. Must have a great understanding of MS Office and G Suite. Previous experience in this position and in the same or similar industry is required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide assistance to individuals with mental illness.

• Assist them in completing housekeeping tasks, such as. Vacuuming, washing dishes, doing the laundry, etc.

• Help individuals with hygiene tasks, such as bathing, grooming, dressing, etc

• Provide transportation to doctor’s appointments and other outings.

• Go shopping for groceries and medication.

• Prepare and serve meals.

• Help individuals eat and drink if necessary.

• Organize daily schedules and set goals with the individuals.

• Ensure that individual’s take their medication on time.

• Perform daily cleaning of the home.

• Keep individuals from any potential accidents.

• Ensure a safe, positive, and pleasant environment for individuals.

• Encourage individuals to engage in social interactions and activities.

• Inform and update family members, doctors, and supervisors of any change in the behavior or health condition of the individual(s).

• Complete progress notes and observation daily and on time.

• Adhere to HIPAA law and respect individual’s privacy and confidentiality.

• Ensure that all individuals are comfortable and safe in the group homes.

• Report of any infections in the group homes

• Ensure all group homes are fully stocked and manage organization.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• High school diploma/ GED.

• Proven 1 or more prior experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in a group home is required.

• Excellent work history, and minimum 5 worked years per company/job.

• Prior experience working with people with mental illness.

• Have a great understanding of MS Office and Google Suite.

• 3 professional references, 2 personal references.

• Can easily adapt to change, and a fast learner.

• Honest, kind, understanding, organized, patient, and attentive to details.

• Excellent communication abilities in english, both written and vocal. Bilingual is a plus.

• Authorized to work in the United States.

• Able to do and pass a background check, physical and drug test.

• Able to lift 50 pounds.

• Negative TB test result.

• Valid First Aid & CPR.

• Valid Medication Aide Certificate.

• Have a valid driver’s license.

• Able to stand 0-100% of the time.

• Able to work in group homes and outdoors.
