PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB AND CONTRIBUTION TO ORGANIZATION:

Lean Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading continuous improvement activities, Kaizen events and establishing measurements for operational performance. Works with the Senior Management Team, develop, set the pace and implement business transformational and continuous improvement strategy with sensitivity towards the organizational structure, commercial approach, culture, people and processes. Engages with employees to enhance the Lean culture and create an inclusive environment which encourages feedback to drive positive change. Candidate should have strong business acumen and be capable of translating proposed projected into financial returns.

ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following job functions are not all-inclusive. The employee will be required to perform other job-related tasks/responsibilities requested by the supervisor. Job duties may change as required by needs of company.

Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice Lean vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.

Continue to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Lean activities.

Develop a robust continuous improvement plan in partnership with the Management Team and key business stake holders.

Implement and support cultural change across the organization and drive business improvement.

Lead continuous improvement process using Lean Six Sigma technique and employee engagement. Support operational objectives through incremental improvement projects.

Facilitate Kaizen events and manages projects to completion. Follows up to ensure improvements are sustained and performance targets are achieved.

Establish operational performance metrics to provide visibility of performance and efficiency.

Work with Operations and Facilities in establishing capital plan for new production equipment to support automation and single piece flow.

Optimize production cell layout, line balancing and process flow to improve productivity.

Develop facility and production cell layouts in CAD to model flow.

Support the development and maturing of the employee training program. standardization of work and documentation of production processes.

Engage with MRP to enhance Kanban for efficient material flow.

Train and educate the workforce on Lean tools and concepts; and serves as main resource for the culture of continuous improvement.

Perform Industrial Engineering analysis of new and established processes and recommend improvements.

Translate recommendations into business cases which demonstrate the potential return on investment.

Comply with 5s discipline to ensure that the immediate work area and all machines, tools, instruments, parts, and products are maintained in a clean, safe, and organized manner.

Manage company’s safety program, not limited to training and implementation. Maintain all reporting as required.

Possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering preferably Industrial Engineering.

Five or more years of related business experience and LEAN manufacturing required.

Green belt in Six Sigma required or Black Belt desired. Background in manufacturing and/or engineering environments.

Consistently demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of LEAN enterprise principles and methods, to support team development, leadership techniques, and project management methods.

Must possess excellent leadership techniques, problem analysis and solving, and process improvement skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Provide expertise to management for process improvement techniques to achieve corporate objectives within costs and time limits allowable.

Use business knowledge to market and communicate the benefits of Continuous Improvement, with substantial latitude for independent action or decision.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Ability to empower and motivate employees towards successful task accomplishments.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and schedule form.

Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft applications and standard office equipment.

Possess the ability to read and interpret a variety of machine gauges, monitors, and electronic instrument panels required in the set-up and production of products.

Possess the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, bar graphs, blueprints, and procedure manuals.

Ability to create reports, business correspondence and procedural manuals.

Qualified Trainer is advantageous.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is required to walk and reach with hands and arms and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision. This position works primarily indoors in a manufacturing setting with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions which may be hot, cold, humid or dry. This position constantly works around moving mechanical parts. This position is occasionally exposed to dusts, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and oil, grease or dirt. The noise level in the work environment is regular factory noises. Wearing the proper PPE (protective eyewear, ear plugs and steal toed shoes) is a requirement in most areas of this facility.
