About the Role

The Mechanical Engineer designs, develops, and tests all aspects of satellite and launch vehicle components and assemblies. The Engineer applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products and conducts product testing, creating models and prototypes. Mechanical engineers will be involved in all aspects of the design and analysis process for primary and secondary structures of orbital launch vehicles, satellites structures, avionics enclosures, and supporting equipment. The required analysis tasks include structural, fluid flow, and thermodynamics as required by the various systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Design satellite and launch vehicle components and assemblies

Develop manufacturing drawings for components and interact with machine shops and fabrication facilities

Support in house manufacturing with tooling design and equipment selection

Plan and conduct environmental, operational and stress tests on models and prototypes of spacecraft systems and equipment

Evaluate designs to see that the products meet engineering principles, customer requirements, environmental regulations, and the necessary safety and efficiency standards

Develop acceptance criteria for design methods, quality standards, sustainment after delivery, and completion dates

Evaluate product data and design from inspections and reports for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, and quality standards

Develop design criteria for spacecraft and satellites, including testing methods, production costs, quality standards, and completion dates

Develop new technologies for use in spacecraft and satellites

Write design proposals, reports, manuals, and other technical documents

Interface with customers

Perform other work-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering

3+ years of mechanical design experience in aerospace or automotive industry

Proficient in CAD design tools

Proficient in drafting fab drawings

Experience with structural analysis

Dynamic loads analysis is a plus

Aerodynamic and fluid flow analysis is a plus

Environmental testing (shock, vibration, static load) is a plus

ITAR Requirements

This position requires compliance with U.S. Government space technology trade restrictions, specifically the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and additional regulations governing satellite, launch vehicle, missile, and other related technologies. All jobs restricted by these regulations will be contingent upon the applicant’s status as a documented U.S. Person or their ability to receive a trade license from the cognizant government agency; in addition to any required company background checks and in compliance with applicable U.S. laws. Similarly, positions requiring the ability to work on government contracts or a security clearance are also contingent upon the applicants ability to receive the appropriate clearance and be allowed to work on U.S. government contracts.
