Job Description

Position Summary: The Code Welder plans the work for the project assigned, including determining welding techniques and sequences, following engineered drawings and quality documents, layout and fitting, welding to approved, preestablished weld procedures and NDE testing of ASME pressure vessels and other assigned projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Sets-up welding equipment for a variety of welding operations, utilizing related positioners and fixtures as required.

Performs complex layouts and assembly of a variety of parts, including large vessels and the associated appurtenances.

Responsible for the productivity level required to maintain pre-determined schedules on assigned projects.

Assist in the direction and training of others.

Work in accordance with established safety practices and facility rules.

Operate overhead cranes and other material handling equipment along with power eqipment used in the fabrication process.

Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan, layout, assemble, fit, weld and test assigned work.

Maintains assigned equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.

Use grinder and other hand or power tools required to grind, bevel, or fit metals together, and remove slag.

Support a philosophy of zero accidents by following all applicable safety procedures and maintaining equipment to operate in the safest way possible.

Skills and Specifications:

Proficient knowledge of welding procedures, practices, symbols, and techniques required to weld and/or fuse metals together.

Ability to read and independently work from plans, sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.

Ability to measure dimensions of completed products or work pieced to verify conformance to specifications.

Solid problems-solving skills.

Ability to contribute and work in a team environment.

Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness to ensure quality of work.

Create and maintain a safe and sanitary working environment.

Willingness to work additional hours to meet tight deadlines.

Education and Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent (GED)

3 years of Code Welding Experience preferred.

Certification from a trade or welding institute is preferred.

Job Description:

Must certify per Section IX or ASME Code qualifications through Visual & Bend testing or Radiography testing of Flux Core, Sub Arc and/or Gas Metal Arc welds in 1 through 3 Groove positions.

Pay is based on skill and performance.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continually required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee is occasionally required to crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
