Join our Project Management Heavy Highway team running the Caltrans Job Order Contracts to be at the forefront of the growth and project success at Ghilotti Bros. The ideal candidate has heavy civil, Caltrans construction experience including earthwork, paving, underground (wet utilities) and concrete areas of focus. The role works closely with the specialized Heavy Highway team and is located onsite at our East Bay (Pleasant Hill) office.

The Project Manager is responsible for managing all technical and PM requirements. They supervise activities related to the contract, change orders, submittals, procurement, project financials and cost management, billings, forecasts, and schedules to ensure the project is completed in a quality, profitable, safe, and timely manner. The position also collaborates closely with the field operations experts and the senior management team to strategize and develop project approach, plans and updates. This includes partnerships with our local owners, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to deliver legendary results as well.

The Project Manager plays a key role in this culture and philosophy to lead the Heavy Highway team, including Field Engineer, Project Engineer and Project Administrator, reporting to the VP of PMT - Heavy Highway.

What a Project Manager’s day could look like:

Collaborate the planning, scheduling and successful execution of the project per design, specification, contracts to ensure project goals are achieved.

Partner with owner, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure schedule, contract and costs commitments are met.

Monitor and manage costs to ensure best financial outcome possible for the company.

Utilize and expand upon risk and opportunity register.

Lead and attend project meetings as required.

Discuss potential Change Order Requests (COR) resulting from owner-directed changes, unforeseen conditions, or proposed changes with the Supervisor.

Review extra work requests and pay quantities with the owner and ensure that required signatures are provided.

Price and submit all necessary change order requests.

Ensures that project site and company assets are secure and maintains a safe and respectful working environment at all times by implementing programs for safety and loss prevention, risk management, training, and quality control.

Lead and mentor the Project Management Team in their learning, growth and development.

The ideal candidate will possess;

10+ years of experience in a Project Management role

At least 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction minimum, including some Caltrans projects.

Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred

Candidate must have a knowledge of public work, Caltrans specifications, with a proven track record of bringing in contracts on time and on budget.

Demonstrates leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, solve problems, and motivate others

Ability to develop strong client relationships and gain consensus on key decisions

Ability to work with others and foster a collaborative environment

Demonstrates solid presentation and verbal/written skills

Computer skills are a must:

Proficient in project management software (PlanGrid, Smartsheet, HCSS HeavyJob)

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)

QSP-certified

Ability to understand all safety requirements and take the necessary precautions

Establishes relationships and communication tools as needed with suppliers and other key people to verify all labor, materials, supplies, tools, and equipment are obtained and/or delivered when necessary.

Ability to interpret complex laws, regulations and policies

Identify and maximize value engineering opportunities

Available to travel greater than 100 miles from main office

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform the physical labor necessary

Ability to walk on uneven ground
