Job Title: MS-SQL DBA

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced MS-SQL DBA to join our team. You will be responsible for managing and optimizing our Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring their performance, security, and availability. Your expertise in database administration, query optimization, and troubleshooting will be instrumental in maintaining a robust and efficient database environment.

Responsibilities

Install, configure, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server, including applying cumulative updates (CUs)

Administer and optimize MSSQL Server databases, leveraging your strong understanding of database architecture

Utilize monitoring and troubleshooting tools for performance tuning and optimization (PTO) of SQL Server

Troubleshoot and resolve database issues to ensure smooth operations and minimal downtime

Develop efficient queries, perform in-depth analysis, and resolve performance issues with existing queries

Implement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options such as failover clustering, database mirroring, log shipping, and replication

Manage user security, including logins, roles, and privileges

Monitor database growth, health, and capacity planning for optimal performance

Set up and maintain Test, Development, Staging, and Production environments for SQL Server

Apply knowledge of indexes, fragmentation, and other database maintenance and optimization tasks

Design and implement databases, including building tables, foreign keys, primary keys, and other database objects

Establish and adhere to sound backup and recovery policies and procedures

Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with coding standards for the database environment

Collaborate with business analysts and developers to understand and address business requirements

Optional: Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS for analysis and reporting

Provide SQL reporting tools to the business team for secure data analysis

Optional: Familiarity with NoSQL databases and cloud technologies like AWS and Big Data

Optional: Experience in financial markets is an added advantage

Requirements

4-5 years of proven experience as an MS-SQL DBA

Strong proficiency in installation, configuration, and CU upgrades of Microsoft SQL Server

Extensive knowledge of Database Administration for MSSQL Server, including a solid understanding of database architecture

Experience in performance tuning and optimization using monitoring and troubleshooting tools for SQL Server

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve database problems effectively

Excellent skills in query optimization, analysis, and performance issue resolution

Familiarity with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server

Proficiency in user security management, database monitoring, and capacity planning

Experience in setting up Test, Development, Staging, and Production Environments of SQL Server

Strong understanding of indexes, fragmentation, and other database maintenance and optimization tasks

Ability to design and implement databases, including tables, FKs, PKs, and other objects

Sound knowledge of backup and recovery policies and procedures

Excellent documentation skills and adherence to coding standards

Effective collaboration and communication skills to work with business analysts and developers

Optional: Experience with Business Intelligence tools (SSAS, SSIS, SSRS)

Optional: Familiarity with NoSQL databases and cloud technologies (AWS, Big Data)

Optional: Experience in financial markets is an added advantage
