Job Title: Fiber Optic Splicer Technician

Location: Gaithersburg, MD/ Charlotte, NC Remote, USA

Are you passionate about cutting-edge technology and empowering customers with lightning-fast connectivity? As we continue to expand our network infrastructure, we are seeking a skilled, enthusiastic, and experienced Fiber Optic Splicer to join our team.

Position Overview: As a Fiber Optic Splicer, you will play a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables and components. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and reliability of fiber optic networks, supporting our mission to provide seamless connectivity to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fiber Optic Cable Splicing: Perform fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, and ribbon splicing techniques to join optical fibers with precision and accuracy.

2. Testing and Troubleshooting: Conduct optical loss testing, OTDR testing, and other diagnostic tests to assess the performance of fiber optic connections and identify any issues or anomalies.

3. Installation and Maintenance: Install, repair, and maintain fiber optic cables, connectors, and related equipment in accordance with industry standards and safety guidelines.

4. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of splicing activities, including splice logs, test results, and equipment inventory, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and quality assurance standards.

5. Collaboration: Work closely with network engineers, project managers, and field technicians to coordinate splicing activities, resolve technical issues, and support the successful completion of projects.

6. Safety Compliance: Adhere to OSHA safety protocols and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents, injuries, and damage to equipment during splicing operations.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or training in fiber optics is preferred.

• Proven 3+ years of experience as a Fiber Optic Splicer in the telecommunications industry, with expertise in fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, and OTDR testing.

• Extensive experience utilizing a fusion splicer, test equipment OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) 1310, 1550, DWDM, CWDM, 945 OLTS, Max Tester, Power meter

• Proficiency in using splicing equipment, fusion splicers, cleavers, and optical power meters, as well as fiber optic testing tools and software.

• Knowledge of Underground Fiber routing, Buried environments, Aerial Fiber, Fiber Splicing, Backbone networks and tie-in locations.

• Strong understanding of fiber optic cable types, installation techniques, and industry standards (e.g., TIA, ANSI, IEEE,BICSI).

• Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve fiber optic network issues in a timely manner.

• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve common goals.

• Commitment to safety and compliance with regulatory requirements, including OSHA standards and industry best practices.

• Ability to safely utilize bucket trucks, access manholes and hand holes. Use ladders to access various installation and construction points as required.

• Installation and dressing of horizontal and vertical fiber optic cables.

• Provide leadership with detailed reports of field splicing activity.

• Ability to maintain splicing schematics and diagrams, maintain accurate splicing and field notes and support project delivery timelines.

• Ability to splice loose tube and ribbon fiber optic cables.

• Maintain accurate and complete fiber optic asset inventory and splicing records.

• Understands Safety requirements, installing in accordance to TIA, RUS industry standards, customer specific standards and executing proper traffic control procedures.

• Effectively follow design plans to provide fiber and coax splicing per the statement of work for seamless site and circuit turn ups.

• Flexibility and availability for any on call emergency coverage for fiber restoration year-round.

• Monitor, communicate and perform troubleshooting to immediately fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment from Hubs and Nodes.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States.

• Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record is required.

• Candidates are required to pass all company drug testing, submit to a background check, and adhere to all OSHA, state, city, municipality safety requirements and training required.

• Ability to travel to customer premise locations and attend site surveys.
