The Senior Network Engineer oversees the workflow involved in maintaining, improving and expanding the company’s enterprise network. This person will be responsible for designing and implementing the network infrastructure, resolving advanced support issues, and managing junior network engineering staff. Ultimately, this person will be responsible for the functional management of the entire network, delegation of tasks, and resolution of network issues.
This person takes the lead in all matters on network infrastructure and will be expected to assist in providing network support and troubleshooting from diagnosis to resolution when required. The Senior Network Engineer exercises judgment and creativity in selecting and applying procedures correctly and continuously integrating with the entire IT team ensuring the network infrastructure supports the needs of the business.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design, Install, Configure, Implement, Support, Repair & Administer network systems and solutions, including voice
Responsible for assisting in the day-to-day support and networking functions of the company
Improving and maintaining network performance, capacity and availability
Creating and implementing network security measures
Manage implementation projects and roll outs of network equipment and systems
Monitoring network performance and integrity, and diagnose related issues
Designing, writing and updating both system documentation, network diagrams and network asset lists
Drawing up network status reports
Tightly manage vendor/stakeholder relationships and SLAs relating to network services
Adhere to SLAs to ensure end-user expectations are met
Responsible for network related tickets assigned to the network team
Liaising with all technical resources involved when required
Regularly performing network firmware upgrades
Routine device configuration backups
Perform wireless heat map surveys
WAN failover testing
Perform after hours and weekend standby as and when required
Perform skills transfer and in-house training to the rest of the team
Continuous research and development to stay abreast with trends and best practices from both a technology and security perspective Education
CCNA required, CCNP preferred
Cisco Meraki Solutions Specialist would be of great value
Fortinet NSE 4 or higher will be an advantage
ITIL Foundation is preferred
University diploma or degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields is a plus Experience
At least 5+ years industry-related work experience in a similar role
Solid background in network administration and architecture
In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF
Experience in implementing and supporting PBR, VPN, MPLS, SD-WAN is essential
Solid experience in managing and maintaining VLANs
Proven experience working on Cisco, Meraki and HP WAN and LAN products
Working knowledge of VOIP and related QOS
Excellent understanding of IP Addressing, DNS and DHCP
Familiarity with access control models and network security
Solid network troubleshooting ability
In-depth understanding of network operating systems
Experience in vendor management, specifically managing various outsourced network services
Experienced with managing projects from inception to completion
Expertise in setting and managing stakeholder expectations
Fortigate firewall experience would be a great advantage
Azure firewall and networking experience would be preferred
Experience with hosted VOIP solutions such as Euphoria is preferred
