The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.

Are you ready to join a growing team? Hospital Maintenance is seeking highly organized and detail-oriented individuals to join our dispatching team. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for dispatching maintenance employees for repairs across the hospital, assigning work orders to the appropriate maintenance staff, and monitoring fire alarms for timely response. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and customer service skills, a strong ability to multitask, the ability to function in stressful or critical situations, and a keen eye for prioritizing maintenance needs.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Dispatches Maintenance Employees:

· Receives and prioritizes maintenance requests from various departments.

· Efficiently dispatches maintenance employees to address repairs and maintenance tasks throughout the hospital.

· Routes elevator requests to the appropriate department.

Assigns Work Orders:

· Matches incoming maintenance requests with the appropriate skill set of maintenance employees.

· Assigns work orders to the designated maintenance staff and communicate tasks effectively.

Monitors Fire Alarms:

· Actively monitors fire alarms and promptly responds to triggering events.

· Dispatches the relevant maintenance employees to investigate and resolve fire alarm issues.

· Ensures all new devices are operational in compliance with state code by programming and testing smoke and duct detectors, door alarms, and sprinklers.

Coordinates with Other Areas:

· Ensures that fire alarms are promptly dispatched to the appropriate persons and departments.

· Announces building-specific fire alarm testing using UAB’s overhead paging system. Pages fire department, police department, elevator company or other outside entities when an emergency situation arises.

Documentation:

· Documents all maintenance calls and activities accurately in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

· Completes proper forms to document fire alarm notifications, ensuring a thorough record of each incident.

Assists Maintenance Employees:

· Provides assistance to maintenance employees in locating alarms within the physical buildings based on schematics and device addresses.

· Collaborates with maintenance staff to facilitate efficient problem resolution.

Professional Development:

· Attends departmental training/meetings, including monthly safety meetings. Stays abreast of the industry and current industry trends.

Starting Hourly Pay Range: $15.00 - $18.00 ((Starting rates are based on our Compensation Guidelines, taking into consideration total relevant, verifiable experience (UAB/UAB Medicine and outside experience), grade minimum, internal equity, and pay ranges).

Work Schedule and On-Call Requirements: Multiple shifts available. Incumbent must have flexibility. Position is designated as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, regardless of the University’s closure. Employees should be prepared to travel to work during inclement weather, emphasizing the importance of their role in critical situations.

· Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications

· Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends, as needed

· Previous experience in dispatching or coordinating maintenance activities preferred.

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively

· Familiarity with fire alarm systems and emergency response protocols preferred

· Proficient in using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and related software preferred

· Ability to multi-task in fast paced environment and handle confidential information.

· Must be committed to a positive customer service philosophy.

· Must be detail oriented self-directed/self-motivated.

· Exhibit flexibility, and cope effectively in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.

· Maintaining a professional demeanor is important in a healthcare setting. The candidate should exhibit professionalism when interacting with employees, patients, hospital staff, and visitors.

PERSONAL: Must be able to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform tasks requiring sitting and staring at a computer screen for extended periods of time, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and extensive walking significant distances between and within buildings in the Hospital.
