Overview of Job:

The Louisiana SPCA is looking for a strategic, flexible professional who has a passion for working with people and animals to support our Pets for Life program. The Pets for Life program builds relationships through door-to-door outreach, and extends animal welfare information, resources and services to people with limited access to pet care facilities. Requiring a strong understanding of systemic issues that affect underserved populations and a commitment to serving the community, this position will oversee and manage all aspects of the Pets for life program.

Success Criteria & Essential Duties:

Responsible for articulating the Pets for Life model, approach, and philosophy in order to keep pets in their existing homes; this role calls for strong interpersonal skills, including patience, understanding and the ability to get communicate with a diverse group of people.

Highly organized and able to prioritize, this role is responsible for going out into the community to undertake daily door-to-door outreach; the position will also manage outreach events and cultivate strong relationships with local groups and programs in the focus community, to further the impact of the Pets for Life program.

Excellent oral and written communications skills are essential, as the role will collect data through the daily contact with the community and be responsible for capturing this data in the program database.

Strong ability to anticipate and solve problems and manage program operating processes to ensure that the program meets strategic goals effectively.

Coordinate ongoing community outreach for pet owners in the focus community, and educate and share information and address needs for spay/neuter services and general pet wellness.

Highly detail oriented and collaborative, this individual will coordinate spay/neuter and wellness appointments, manage appointment follow up and handle all logistics and transport.Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

Two years’ experience of managing and overseeing programs and providing direct services to diverse audiences.

Program/Process management experience.

Minimum Qualifications, skills and knowledge:

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment substance screening.

A valid driver’s license, and mobility to work in different areas of the city.

Significant understanding of systemic economic and social issues that affect underserved populations and commitment to serve the community.

Ability to work independently as well as willingness to work as a team and provide direct support in all areas of program.

Commitment to treat animals and people with respect and kindness.

Flexibility, ability to manage multiple tasks.

Expected to work extended weekday hours and weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements:

Should not be allergic to animals or nuts/products; must be able to work around all animals.

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds; push and pull heavy objects; bend, twist, reach; perform strenuous physical activities including frequent walking and running, standing, bending and stooping.

Working Conditions:

Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches.

Ability to work in an area with a high noise level.
