Job Description
Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, the PRN-Pharmacist is responsible for filling prescriptions by using acceptable pharmaceutical techniques as well as compounding and dispensing pharmaceuticals issued by physicians and other qualified prescribers. The PRN-Pharmacist advises patients and providers of potential drug interactions, possible side effects, storage information and instructions on the proper usage of medication. This person must demonstrate knowledge and ability to appropriately communicate and interact with the staff, patients, families and visitors of all age groups, while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
Job Responsibilities:
Demonstrate the ability to provide information or knowledge on drugs, drug dosing, side effects, indications, contraindications and proper administration
Understand the goals and objectives of the Corporation as set out in the By-Laws and Policy and Procedure Manuals
Oversee the performance of packaging, labeling, measuring compounding, storing, charging and recording medications used in patient care
Manage the inventory, order and maintain the supply of drugs, chemicals and other pharmaceutical stock
Submit monthly reports to Chief Financial Officer (if applicable)
Promote preventive care and healthy lifestyles for all patient lifecycles
Maintain a method of storage for providing security of medicines or pharmaceuticals
Supervise the pharmacy staff as well as the daily operations
Serve as a counselor to patients and providers of potential drug interactions, possible side effects, storage information and instructions on proper use of medication
Established health care standards and protocols for each medical service and program
Ensures confidentiality of patient information and records
Participates actively in performance improvement activities
Maintain complete, up to date and accurate patient prescription records
Comply with credentialing and other administrative requirements necessary for meeting regulatory standards
Demonstrate positive personal attributes such as honesty, integrity and professionalism in all aspects of the job
Work to ensure the productivity and effectiveness of the pharmacy staff, in terms of utilization and patient satisfaction
Attends classes, workshops and seminars as appropriate to maintain clinical competency and stay informed of changes in community health
Demonstrates sensitivity to cultural issues and a positive attitude when dealing with patients, colleagues, and resource people from outside the center
Maintains prompt and regular attendance
Verify timecard at the end of each pay period
Performs related work, as assigned
Job Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited school of Pharmacy
Completion of an approved Pharmacy internship
Valid Mississippi Pharmacy License
Understands state and federal laws regarding regulation of pharmacy practices
Skilled in compounding and manufacturing of drugs
At least 2 years work experience as a licensed Pharmacist
Knowledge of chemical, biological and comparative therapeutic properties of a wide range of drugs, and the principles of specialized science directly related to pharmacy
Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Must be able to deal effectively with patient and staff emergencies
Physical and Other Requirements:
Must continuously listen, visualize and have dexterity and eye-hand coordination and full range of body motion
Must frequently sit, squat, reach, use both right and left forearm rotation, walk, stand, kneel and twist. Must have ability to grasp firmly, lift and carry, push and pull in excess of 10 lbs.
