The Ohio Department of Development is presently seeking to hire an experienced Demographer to join our Research team. In this position you will be responsible for coordinating the collection, analysis, and reporting of data and research about the State of Ohio and its demographic trends.
Starting Salary: $57,907 yr. with the possibility of starting at a higher pay rate based on experience
Some of the duties you will perform:
Projects and estimates demographic and economic information (i.e., race, age, sex, geography, income, population, migration, fertility, death) for Ohio and its subdivisions (e.g., counties, cities, townships)
Calculates statistics and performs statistical analysis (e.g., multiple correlation/regression, housing unit method, ratio-correlation method, administrative record method) on demographic data
Evaluates degree of accuracy of projected estimates
develops new techniques in estimating
develops demographic research methodologies
enters and updates statistical data into computer program
develops, writes and maintains computer programs for specialized demographic reports
writes detailed technical documentation for population projections, estimates and migration reports
assists in writing technical demographic journal articles, periodically collects statistical data (e.g., birth, death, auto registration, school enrollment) from governmental agencies and institutions for federal population estimates
prepares, submits and presents population status reports to federal, state, local and regional planning officials
Responds to demographic inquiries from federal, state, local, regional officials and general public
provides technical assistance to demographic data users
maintains records and technical evaluations relative to national, regional, state and county demographic projections and estimates
This position is required to work in the office Monday-Friday with flexibility in starting and ending times. The job is located in the Vern Riffe building, 77 South High St. Columbus, OH 43215
Completion of undergraduate core program in statistics/mathematics; 12 months training or 12 months experience in research related field to include operation of personal computer to generate statistical/mathematical reports.
-Or completion of graduate core program in statistics, mathematics or research related field to include operation of personal computer generating statistical/mathematical reports.
