Responsible for the operation and direction of the recreation program and assigned staff.

Develop and promote recreational programs which meet the needs of all program participants.

Supervises all recreation staff, ensuring that students receive instruction in safety aspects of all activities, i.e., water safety, athletic field safety, etc.; records in CIS as required.

Conducts in-service staff training sessions as needed.

Plans and arranges for all on-center activities, including provisions for cultural and creative activities, sports, and other leisure-learning programs.

Extend partnerships to other recreational providers in the community.

Maintains recreation supplies and equipment, and orders replacements, as necessary.

Develop, draft, and submit calendar of events for review monthly to the Social Development Director.

Publishes an advance recreation schedule on a monthly and/or weekly basis and posts it in areas to be viewed by program participants.

Maintains a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly participation record.

Conducts monthly student surveys on recreational program.

Monitors and control expenditures for departmental budget.

Maintains stock of trainee uniforms and various other athletic garments.

Increases opportunities for trainees to lead project-based teams during event hours.

Sensitizes staff to encourage sportsmanship, fair play, and positive social interactions.

Acknowledges and rewards program participants who exhibit positive social behaviors and sportsmanship.

Assesses personnel needs and works with the Human Resources department to screen and interview potential staff. Recommends promotions, transfers, and merit evaluations within the department. Conducts and prepares performance appraisals.

Clearly communicates and consistently models appropriate CSS and employability skills.

Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property.

Adheres to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.

Fosters and sustains a conducive environment at the center, ensuring it remains free from harassment, intimidation, and disrespect, thereby ensuring a safe space for both staff and students to engage in work and learning.

Other duties as assigned.Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or related area; or four to six years related experience and/or training.

One to two years of supervisory experience.

Experience working with diverse population of youth.

A valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.

Valid Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement preferred.
