Job Description

The Junior Project Manager/Estimator is responsible for assisting the Project Management Department in all aspects of other company projects as needed. The Junior Project Manager/Estimator also oversees and coordinates all smaller scale projects from customer initiation through final construction on a timely and profitable basis. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety in the workday, a fast-paced environment, and excels at organization, customer service, and effective communication. Overall, this role is designed to develop the skills of the person in this position for the opportunity of advancement into a Project Manager/Estimator position.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Meet with potential customers and perform site evaluations

• Identify labor, material, equipment, and time requirements to perform the work

• Assist the Project Management Department with company projects on an as needed basis

• Assist with quantity takeoffs and estimates for concrete, earthwork, and underground utilities projects

• Provide project documents for awarded projects to Controller (contracts, quotes, drawings, pictures, etc.)

• Obtain any permits needed for project (see Blake for any bonding requirements)

• Request utility locates (public and private) on a regular basis

• Coordinate and communicate with customers on a regular basis

• Communicate project progress with superintendents and foreman on a regular basis

• Attend weekly (Thursday) planning meetings – provide status updates for your projects

• Track costs against the project budget to avoid cost overruns

• Invoice review and approval on a regular basis

• Submit project billing information to accounting department on a regular (weekly) basis

• Lead by example and promote high standards and reputation for excellence

• Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as needed by the business

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Proficient in Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications with the ability to easily learn new software.

• Prior experience or education in construction or manufacturing setting.

• A minimum of a 2-year AA Degree in Construction Management or comparable project management and/or business administration experience.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and can drive to jobsites.

• Must adhere to safety protocol and work in a drug-free environment.

• Previous knowledge of construction practices and materials.

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Education and/or experience with project management and accounting software.

• Organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.

• High level of motivation, integrity, and commitment to team and customers.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, communicates effectively with management, employees, customers and vendors.

• Experience with the bidding process.
