Food Service Assistant

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a candidate who has a Food Service Certification license and one (1) year or more working in a residential setting with basic food preparation and cooking for the Food Service Assistant position in the West Neck ICF (Intermediate Care Facility) in the Developmental Services Division.

Duties:

Prepare and serves meals to meet the health and nutritional requirements of the residents.

Assure that health and safety standards related to food storage, preparation, and clean-up are met. Includes dishwashing and floor mopping.

Collaborate with Registered Dietician and nursing staff in menu planning to ensure that daily nutritional requirements and physician’s orders are met.

Assist in the maintenance of food inventory to ensure ingredients for planned meals are available.

Work closely with the second cook in the facility and with the food service delivery company.

Assist in required recordkeeping to ensure that policies and procedures necessary for reimbursement are met.

Provide resident care as it relates to meals and food preparation.

Ensure food is prepared in sufficient quantity for the population served.

Ensure infrequent substitution of menus is required, and those menu substitutions meet daily nutritional requirements and are documented.

Ensure Health Department sanitary inspections and relevant licensure standards are met.

Ensures records are kept, and reports submitted on time and according to procedures.
