REPORTS TO: Director, CI&E Strategic Initiatives

COMPENSATION: $60,000 - $75,000

*This role can reside in either Colorado Springs or the Washington D.C. area depending on candidate preference.

POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Space Commerce Institute Business Development and Sales position is a vital role within Space Foundation. This individual supports the Center for Innovation and Education (CI&E) and Space Commerce Institute (SCI) in the growth of all SCI activities.

Space Commerce Institute is dedicated to opening and expanding opportunities within the space economy through information, experience, training, mentorship, and consultancy. SCI provides participants with accessible, actionable, tangible, and targeted programming to bridge the knowledge gap and learn from experts who have perfected what it takes to navigate evolving mandates of business growth from concept to creation. SCI is a department of the Center for Innovation and Education.

The SCI Business Development candidate is entrepreneurial in nature, with strong written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and an ability to manage multiple priorities and leads. They are tenacious at follow-up and effective in collaborating with multiple departments within the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following briefly describes the potential scope of representative responsibilities for this job, but it is not intended to be a complete or all-inclusive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of this position:

Assists with the relationship management of, and outreach to, current and potential Space Commerce Institute partners and customers

Creates sales campaigns for prospective new customers, working closely with the Space Foundation communications and media team

Conducts research and generates new leads for Space Commerce Institute’s programs

Consistently documents calls and results through CRM and regularly reports results and pipeline updates to the VP of Space Commerce and Entrepreneurship, who leads SCI

Compiles and analyzes results including the growth of the pipeline, forecasted sales and attributed revenue, closing rate, and attrition rate

Represents Space Foundation at events, conferences, and community functions to further enhance brand awareness and develop additional business opportunities

Effectively collaborates with multiple departments within the organization

Works with CI&E business development and SCI teams to identify key opportunities and areas of potential program growth and develops plans to approach key decision makers within those opportunities

Performs other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s Degree or 5+ years of relevant high-level sales experience

Strong written and oral communication skills

Business development or sales experience

Entrepreneurial spirit with an ability to remain flexible

Ability to connect customer needs to organizational products and services

Capable of demonstrating a calm demeanor during stressful times

Ability to see sales potential and develop relationships accordingly to support growth

Strong negotiation and closing skills, along with the ability to influence others

Self-driven and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision

Collaborative in nature

Ability to travel domestically and internationally periodically

Individuals in this position will generally work indoors and will have a workspace designated solely for them. Necessary office furnishings, equipment, and supplies will be provided by the Foundation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may periodically be required to work outdoors and would be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The employee may periodically be required to work in an offsite environment or at special events and may be asked to travel on Foundation business, at the Foundation’s expense. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

JOB STATUS: FLSA Classification:

This position is exempt according to guidelines of the Fair Labor Standards Act and, as such, an individual in this position is not eligible to receive overtime pay.

Full- or Part-Time: This position is full-time in nature. An individual in this position will work a schedule consisting of 40 hours per week.

Work Location: This position may be based out of our Colorado Springs, Co. headquarters or Arlington, Va. office.

Regular Schedule: Usual business days are Monday through Friday, holidays excepted, and usual business hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. in the time zone in which the position is located.

Space Foundation’s current hybrid policy allows for 2 remote work days per week.
