Cementitious Lab Manager / Sr. Chemist

Duties & Responsibilities:

Duly responsible for hands on development work in all cementitious products and managing the daily activities in the lab from R&D and Quality. Will be responsible for all equipment, raw materials, and supplies in the lab. Directing the activities of two others, one who is well versed in the polymer and epoxy side of the coatings and polymer modified systems

Specific knowledge of how various cementitious products are used and the properties they are required to have. Must have prior knowledge of latex modified repair mortars, non-shrink grouts, and general cementitious products

Development of new products, and improvement of existing products including grouts, mortars, curing and sealing compounds

Ability to draft technical reports summarizing research findings related to product development, raw material evaluation, and quality issues

Knowledge of admixtures and mineral additives to give required properties to cementitious products such as plasticizers, rheology modifiers, shrink reducers, set accelerators and retarders, etc.

Assist with writing TDS and SDS documents

Experience with Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures. Supervise the physical testing of raw materials and finished products. This includes the ability to perform an analysis of production problems and the ability to take corrective actions to get products within specifications

Search for and evaluate new raw materials and processes. Work with the inventory manager regarding sources of supply

Familiarity with manufacturing processes for cement products and curing compounds

Supervisory experience is a must. Must have the ability to manage the R&D projects of another chemist giving direction and monitoring progress

Trouble shoot field problems to find solutions to customer product related issues

Learn production related software to create and modify formulas and generate production tickets if required

Motivated to be hands-on in all aspects of the job above. Must be able to step in and perform all the lab duties when needed and actively participate in solving plant quality and manufacturing process issues firsthand

Technical Qualifications:

BS Chemistry with emphasis on inorganic chemistry a plus; chemical engineering or materials science

Ideally 10 years in cementitious product development from the bench to full scale manufacturing

Ideally 3-5 years of leadership/management (of people and an operational lab) experience

Project Management, Quality, manufacturing support, understanding of regulatory requirements, and any experience working with DOT to qualify products is a huge plus

Excellent skills in Office, Excel, spreadsheets, etc.

Fluent in English is required
