GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The PRN LVN will serve as the LVN for the Camino Real Community Services Frio MH Clinic and is responsible for providing direct care services as needed to ensure ongoing operations of this mental health outpatient clinic. The headquarters for this position is 411 E. Brazos Pearsall, Texas. Working hours are Mon., Wed-Fri., 8am-5pm and Tuesday 8am-7pm. The position requires excellent communication, written/interpersonal skills, ability to meet deadlines, and the ability to work with adults and children who struggle with mental health and substance use issues Must have excellent nursing judgment and be an advocate for the consumer within a team process. Duties include implementing a plan of quality physical and behavioral health care, as well as nursing services to the priority populations served by CRCS. Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement, document, and evaluate nursing care provided to consumers under the requirements of the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Maintains control of drugs and medications and may provide oversight to direct care providers.

Camino Real Community Services is a Trauma Informed Care Agency and implements the principles of trauma informed care.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Licensed to practice as a licensed vocational nurse in the State of Texas.

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience practicing as a licensed vocational nurse.

• Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Must have work experience using a computer, valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record.

• Experience meeting strict deadlines in a busy health care service environment.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in the mental health field as well as experience in a community setting.

• Familiarity with web-based system Smartcare.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of individual needs/characteristics associated with mental illness and appropriate approaches to treatment and nursing functions.

• Knowledge of computer and office automation equipment and software to support nursing services.

• Skill with health care delivery in a bilingual setting.

• Skills with primary care and psychiatric vocational nursing.

• Ability to develop productive relationships with consumers and family members.

• Ability to work independently, organize work efficiently and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

• Ability to maintain physical and emotional stamina to permit full performance of duties.

• Ability to work in a crisis.
