CNC Machinist

Who we're searching for:

We're in search of a qualified, experienced and competent CNC machinist to join our team.

Who we are:

Vorsprung Suspension develops and manufactures high-end suspension components for mountain bikes. Our mission is to improve the human experience, by delivering THE best performing, highest quality products in the world, and by working to build a functional, productive and pleasant workplace that people actually want to work at.

What we do:

We make suspension components.

Multi-axis turning is the bulk of our work, using Swiss type lathes and twin spindle turning centres with live tooling

Multi-axis milling is also a focus of ours

Lights-out production is critical to our business

We machine primarily aluminum parts, as well as some stainless, plastic and steel

Nakamura Tome AS-200L turning centre

Tornos DT26HP Swiss-type lathe

Haas VF2SS with 4th axis

Required:

Fully qualified CNC machinist (Journeyman or Red Seal)

Minimum 1 year full time relevant experience after completion of qualification

Proficiency in precision metrology - both in terms of tools and concepts

Ability to read & interpret drawings

Understanding of GD&T

Ability to read, write/modify and interpret G-code commands

Fluent in English

Good written & spoken communication skills

Generally computer-literate and able to learn new software suites as needed.

Cooperative attitude without being a pushover

Desired Experience:

Fusion 360 CAM programming for milling & turning

Fanuc & Haas controls

Fanuc conversational programming

Implementing Lean manufacturing principles

Implementing Kaizen/Continuous Improvement principles

Multi-channel (multi-path) controls

Twin-spindle lathes

Multi-axis milling

Post-processor modification capabilities an asset

Using industrial machining automation (bar feeders, robots, etc)

Responsibilities & Duties:

Your primary responsibility is to efficiently produce parts to the specifications given. Everything else is subservient to that goal.

Efficient setup, prove-out and operation of production & prototype parts

Programming parts using CAM & conversational controls

Setting up processes for success in unattended machining

Providing feedback to engineers regarding design manufacturability

Inspection, measurement & quality control of all manufactured components

Cleaning & shipping components

Maintaining tooling & material

Basic machine maintenance & upkeep

Ensuring that we are continuously improving everything we do

We try to make the workplace pleasant and welcoming, and to ensure that your workload is manageable and not unrealistic. However, some tasks are very challenging and some days are hard.

By the time you start, we'll be in a brand new building - clean, well lit and air-conditioned to ensure both machining precision & staff comfort.

Overtime hours are not typically required on average - we operate on averaging agreements for 80hrs per 2 week pay period. Work longer hours one day, shorter hours another.

We don’t require you to work on weekends or stat holidays.

Once you’re sufficiently autonomous, hours are reasonably flexible. Some days things go sideways and we need to stay longer to ensure a part can run overnight, but wherever possible, and within the limits of their capability to be autonomous at any given time, we aim to offer employees flexibility.

Work with us and we'll work with you - our primary focus is ensuring that we are efficiently producing & delivering consistently high quality parts, not simply ensuring that you’re in the building between arbitrarily determined hours. For example, if you need to look after your kids from 3pm to 7pm, we can accommodate an early start time or even a split workday.

What's on offer:

From day 1:

Competitive remuneration commensurate with qualifications, relevant experience & capability.

5 paid sick/personal days per calendar year, pro rata. Employees can use these as paid days off for any other reason too.

After 6 months:

Opportunity for profit sharing, pro rata - 20% of company net profit distributed between the employees annually. Conditions apply.
