Project Engineer

Independence Excavating is looking to add a Project Engineer to our Sterling, VA location that will take charge of streamlining the planning and coordination of project initiatives while maintaining budgets, compliance regulations and scheduling.

A typical day looks like:

Reading, understanding, and interpreting drawings and specifications to ensure adherence to project requirements.

Soliciting quotes from subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing for project materials and services.

Collaborating with Field Superintendents to review estimated productions and finalize bids for project submission.

Preparing and maintaining a detailed schedule to ensure timely completion of project milestones.

Assembling job cost codes for projects and regularly updating them to track expenses accurately.

Monitoring production, resource utilization, and overall job cost vs. estimated cost to maintain profitability on projects.

Providing the Project Manager with the necessary details to submit pay estimates to Owners accurately.

Monitoring and overseeing project close-out activities, including punch list coordination, furnishing as-built drawings, providing O&M manuals, and compiling final estimate/retainer billing.

Other duties as needed and assigned.

Do you have what it takes?

1-2 years of previous construction related experience; heavy civil experience preferred; internships, co-ops, or work experience a plus

Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, construction management software experience a plus.

Have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Must have strong organizational skills in order to handle the variety of tasks assigned.

Proficient verbal communication skills required to effectively interact with employees, external vendors, owners, and general contractors.

Demonstrated capability in overseeing budget, schedule, personnel, and work quality across multiple construction sites.

Competency in conducting thorough and precise project take-offs and estimations essential for successful project management.

Willingness to work 100% in field onsite and in job trailer.
