GeoSearch is actively seeking an Inventory Forester with an emphasis on Biometrics. The successful candidate will help support clients through company services related to field data logistics, database management, forest projections, product merchandizing and valuations, tree form and measurement specifications, Lidar-based inventory products, carbon, forest risk analyses, and various industry and client-chosen software applications. Skills in FPS and/or FVS are expected as well as the ability to work within other forest modeling and merchandising software as may arise. The ability to interface with MS Access, SQL, and/or PostgreSQL is a must. Supporting skills in GIS, database management, Python, and technical writing are necessary for this position. From the collection of field data and development of results to annual inventory updates and harvest scheduling for clients using bothtraditional forestry data and remotely sensed inventories, this position supports day-to-day and long-term services to achieve client, team, and company goals. Communication and innovation to improve project and team efficiencies as well as final-product client value is a must. This position will additionally work across multiple services throughout the Company to update and improve systems that increase the value of our services and leverage the field, remotely sensed, and processed metrics and resources available.

We are ideally looking for a candidate to work on-site in Moscow, ID. Relocation assistance can be provided for the right candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position works to support services and service teams within the Company regarding forest modeling, growth and yield projections, merchandizing, forest valuations, and inventory updates as well as general knowledge regarding how trees grow and are influenced by their surroundings.

Work closely with staff and teams throughout the Company to provide analytical support related to forest growth, mensuration, merchandizing, analysis, and delivery of traditional and digitally-based forest inventory products.

Utilize industry-standard cruise compilers/growth & yield models/harvest schedulers (FVS, FPS, SIMs,

Woodstock, etc.) for forest analyses as needed to meet client goals.

Work independently and as part of a greater team to complete various technical tasks, including

information gathering, data analyses, GIS analytics, database administration, and technical writing based on the objectives of client contracts.

Work with key mentors and company partners to grow the Company and the INV team's biometric and

forest analytical capacity as requested (i.e., fire risk, avoided cost, site indexing tools, etc.).

Develop and support the implementation of cruise designs to meet client and service needs of the

Company.

Help facilitate the professional development of other staff within the Company as it relates to the core functions of this position.

Represent the Company in public forums through presentations, workshops targeted promotional

activities as requested/approved by management.

Qualifications:

A B.S. or M.S./M.A./MBA degree in biometrics, data analytics, forestry, or similarly related technical natural resources discipline, and two (2) years of applied experience within operational forest growth and yield modeling for industry uses.

Demonstrated skills in FPS and/or FVS as well as experience in MS Access, SQL, PostgreSQL, Linux, Python, and/or R programming that supports forest projections and merchandising.

Demonstrated skills in ArcPro/QGIS, Microsoft Office suite, and GPS equipment operation.

Experience in the collection of forest inventory or survey-quality GPS field-location data.

Ability to communicate effectively about highly diverse and complex work tasks and analyses.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

PhD degree in biometrics, silviculture, applied forestry, remote sensing, statistics, or environmental engineering.

Expertise in forest growth modeling related to lidar data and remote sensing technologies as well as their respective data acquisition techniques.

Experience in carbon unit quantification calculations and verification.

Research experience relating to scientific literature publication in a natural resource field.
