Volt Carbon Technologies is looking for a Head of Technology - Battery Development to lead Solid UltraBattery team operating in Guelf, ON and specializing in carbon sciences research and development.

It is a wonderful opportunity for a seasoned leader in the battery technology field to grow with our high-tech enterprise focusing on R&D, design, production of low cost, high energy, and safe solid-state lithium-ion batteries.

We anticipate a year of growth and expansion and are looking for an experienced leader with a proven track record in the development of lithium-ion battery technology.

In this position you will be a part of the Executive Management team in charge of innovation, research, development and commercialization of Solid UltraBattery’s technology.

This is a full-time, permanent leadership role, working on-site at Solid UltraBattery’s Guelph battery research and development centre. If you possess a PhD in Nanotechnology or Chemical Engineering, have a proven track record in this field of study exemplified with published research along with patents, a proven track record of effectively leading a team of researchers and managing a budget, along with experience working in a public company environment, you will succeed in this role.

Individuals must illustrate leadership skills, financial management skills, human resource management skills and proven track record in the scientific field of lithium-ion battery development technology. Understanding of commercialization and proven track record of 20+ years in this field in the positions with constantly growing level of responsibility is required.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITES:

• Establish objectives, formulate or approve policies and programs, to support operation of the company and ensure the effective development and commercialization of lithium-ion batteries.

• Lead and guide the technology development of lithium-ion batteries and fabrication in the Solid UltraBattery R & D facility.

• Financial management and control of R & D projects and teams including capital spend on equipment, research supplies and human resources of the scientific team required to efficiently operate it.

• Build, manage, guide, and lead the team of battery fabrication researchers and engineers, select middle managers and other executive staff.

• All research and battery fabrication team members will report directly to you and you are responsible to oversee with support from human resources the personnel planning, recruitment, hiring, training and

development of the battery fabrication team members from a scientific and development perspective.

• Be the technology representative for the company at external scientific events and to external stakeholders that may financially support the company.

• Collaborate with other executive managers to effectively operate the Guelph facility from an operational, financial, human resources and safety perspective.

• Participate in creation of new departments and divisions and coordinate the work of such divisions

REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY:

• Available full-time to work on-site in Guelph, Ontario.

• Possess a PhD in either Nanotechnology or Chemical Engineering from a CEAB accredited university.

• 20+ years of experience with the growing level of responsibilities in the field of lithium-ion battery research, development, fabrication & commercialization.

• Proven track record in this dedicated field of study with 20+ published research studies and/or patents.

• Proven track record in safety management as it relates to lithium-ion battery fabrication methods.

• Minimum 10 years of experience in R&D in senior managerial positions.

• Strong leadership skills, financial management skills, collaboration skills and communication skills are all required.

• Working knowledge and experience with a multitude of scientific research laboratory methods.

• Experience with DFMEA, FTA and BOM for lithium-ion battery fabrication.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Type of employment: permanent

Full time: 40 hours / week

Annual salary: $150,000
