Benefits Manager - for top tier global law firm in Washington, DC. .This position works to administer health and welfare benefits for U.S. offices.
Responsibilities: Partnering with the Director to design/administer domestic health and welfare programs. Manager benefits team members. Oversee operation of the benefit programs in all phases. Ensure records, files, processing, and procedures meet or exceed compliance standards. Analyze health and welfare benefit plans; ensure they are in conformance with policies and procedures, Plan documentation, contractual arrangements, and regulatory requirements (ERISA, DOL, IRS, HIPAA, FMLA, COBRA, ADEA, ADA, other federal, state and local laws, etc.) Assist the Director with vendor contracts, draft communications, and review of documentation including proposals, contracts, plan documents, amendments, and summary plan descriptions. Ensure benefits are effectively communicated to professional staff and attorneys. Manage the set up and functionality of the benefit plans in the firm’s HRIS system. Assist the Director with preparation of the annual budget for the Benefits Department. Monitor/report monthly variances. Support invoice payment process. Coordinate data and documentation necessary to accomplish tasks involved with annual benefit renewals and open enrollment. Conduct new hire benefits orientations as needed. Assisting with wellness programs. Maintain a thorough understanding of benefits, current trends and legislation and monitoring the external legal environment and assisting with amendments as necessary.
Position Requirements: Bachelor's degree. Master’s degree a plus. Minimum of four years of expertise in administration and management of health and welfare benefit programs and vendor management in a law firm or professional services environment. In-depth knowledge of ERISA, Section 125, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA and tax-qualified pension plans. Prior supervisory experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, etc. Project experience in implementing new benefit plans and programs. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong aptitude towards efficiency, quality and consistency with a focus on delivering the highest level of client service. Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, meet deadlines, and handle sensitive matters. Experience maintaining financial/budgetary information. Proven leadership experience. Salary is commensurate with experience.
