BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. A clearance of up to and including Top Secret / SCI may be held by the program. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Lead System Administrator in Merrifield, VA. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s mission critical, multi-agency data warehouse for federal law enforcement. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

Key Responsibilities

Red Hat LINUX Administration

Windows Server and Workstation Administration

Leads the provision, maintenance and management of 140+ servers and workstations

Serves as a front line interface to IT staff and end-users at customer site in Merrifield

Makes recommendations for hardware and software purchases for future growth and licensing

Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff

Conducts systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies

Develops Systems engineering and network/environment diagrams to provide detailed technical solutions to include containerization, virtualization and cloud migration

Configures, maintains, troubleshoots necessary configurations to ensure compliance with back-up and disaster recovery policies and procedures for server systems

Leads automation efforts to reduce repetitive processes to streamline support

Creates, maintains and manages Disaster Recovery Plans for Physical and Virtual Servers

Mentors team in technology to allow them to be knowledgeable and self-sufficient

Works with manager in understanding and optimizing team performance

Advocates continuous process improvement

Identifies needs and investigates solutions of tools in providing enhanced support

Ensures architecture is reliable, flexible, integrated and anticipates future hardware/software needs to meet business based on customer requirements

Leads reviews and analyzes performance metrics in order to optimize environment for efficiencies. Identifies additional improvement and performance metrics

Leads large sized continuous process improvement efforts

Basic Qualifications

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related specialized area, field or the equivalent and or more 10 years of related experience, including demonstrated leadership. To meet contractual requirements, a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree + 10 years of experience is required.

Because this position is a contractual key personnel role, the following qualifications must be met prior to starting work on this program and may be subject to customer review and approval:

Demonstrated experience on at least 2 major projects design, configuration, provision and maintenance of a technical environment and infrastructure including a scalable/redundant web architecture, a data warehousing and/or search solution, a secure environment, and a database enterprise operating environment with robust storage and tools for monitoring resources, clustering, failover and high availability.

Works closely with Database Administrators, Software Engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure system resources are available and properly configured for optimal performance

Experience with Windows, Unix, and Linux servers operating in complex application architectures.

Demonstrated experience on at least 2 major projects with database technologies including Oracle and related concepts, such as transaction processing and issues of database integrity, scalability, performance tuning, data modeling, data backup and recovery, dictionaries, warehousing, and standardization in a large-scale environment.

Demonstrated experience in debugging performance, load, concurrent use issues in a distributed, multi-tiered architecture including the development or integration of application services and/or shared components to address needs like user authentication, security, version control, and authorization.

Applies solid systems engineering and administration skills to large-scale IT systems

Designs architectures and systems including hardware and communications solutions

Ensures systems are in compliance with applicable information security requirements through close work with the ISSO and other stakeholders

Evaluates compatibility of information system development efforts with agency architectures and recommends adjustments as appropriate

Supervises a small team of system administrators

Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and works closely as a liaison between program management, customer stakeholders, and the project technical team

Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, team leads, clients, and other stakeholders

Assess project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives

Experience with technologies including Nagios, Cisco VPN and firewalls and other network hardware, Ansible, and Hadoop is a plus but not required.
