Employment Opportunity

Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Recreation Supervisor and Aquatics Recreation Coordinator, the Aquatics Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in the facilitation of swim lessons, aquatics programs, and lifeguard training classes. This position will work closely with instructors and staff to ensure smooth operations of aquatics programs, assist with class management, and provide support for various aquatics-related events and initiatives.

Essential Functions of Work

(May not include all duties performed.)

Support daily operations of the aquatic facility, ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient environment.

Assist with equipment setup, maintenance, and storage for programs, rentals, and events.

Enforce safety rules, monitor pool usage, and respond to emergencies according to established protocols.

Help maintain facility cleanliness, including pool decks, locker rooms, offices, and surrounding areas.

Contribute to routine facility upkeep, including chemical checks and seasonal opening/closing procedures.

Assist patrons with program information and facility policies.

Perform administrative tasks such as check-ins, registration, and record-keeping using RecTrac software.

Support aquatic staff with training sessions, certification processes, and general supervision needs.

Report maintenance issues or safety concerns to full-time staff promptly.

Provide professional and courteous service to all patrons. Interact with the public and respond to customer inquiries, researching and resolving issues as necessary.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, Recreation Program Managers, Deputy Director of Recreation and Parks, or the Director of Recreation and Parks or their designee.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Extensive experience in aquatic programming, event planning, and staff training.

Strong background in American Red Cross certification and safety protocols.

In-depth knowledge of Hilliard Municipal Pools' policies and industry best practices.

Skilled in leading staff, coordinating training, and implementing safety procedures.

Proficient in RecTrac and administrative tasks, including reporting and record-keeping.

Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.

Experienced in emergency response and compliance with safety regulations.

Committed to professional development and industry standards.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

21 Years of Age or Older.

High School Diploma.

At least 2 years of experience in an aquatic recreation setting.

Possession of American Red Cross Lifeguarding/CPR/First Aid/AED certification.

Possession of American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification.

Possession of Certified Pool Operator/Aquatic Facility Operator OR ability to obtain upon hire.

WELL MEMBERSHIP Part-time employees are eligible to enroll in the employee Well membership program. This program allows employees to receive an individual Well membership if they meet the program's quarterly goal. RETIREMENT PENSION The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Retirement System (OPERS) and the employee contributes 10%. PERSONAL LEAVE Part-time employees who have worked for a minimum of 1,000 hours during the prior calendar year for the City, shall be eligible for forty (40) hours of paid personal leave each year. Part-time employees who have worked less than 1,000 hours but more than 500 hours but less than 1,000 hours but more than 500 hours in the previous calendar year for the City shall be eligible for twenty-four (24) hours of paid personal leave each year.
