Main Purpose:
The Electrical Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient execution of all maintenance and project activities at the Matola terminal. The role ensures terminal assets are available, reliable, and maintained to the highest standards — supporting business continuity while upholding meticulous HSE, compliance, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Electrical Technician is responsible for carrying out all terminal maintenance activities within terminal operations.
Automation, SCADA & Control Systems
Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot SCADA and DCS systems to ensure continuous terminal operations
Perform PLC fault diagnosis, including reading ladder logic, identifying faults, and coordinating corrective actions with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or system integrator
Operate and configure HMI panels associated with loading gantries, pump stations, and tank farm systems
Perform control loop checks and instrument calibration verification on automated systems
Maintain and update PLC and SCADA documentation, including I/O lists, cause-and-effect diagrams, and network architecture drawings
Support the integration of new automation systems into existing terminal infrastructure, ensuring compatibility and safe handover
Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for new instrumentation and automation equipment.
Instrumentation & Metering
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on ATG systems (e.g. Rosemount or Honeywell Enraf), including level gauge calibration, transmitter replacement, and communication fault resolution
Conduct functional testing and calibration of field instruments, including pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, flow meters, and level switches
Ensure ATG data integrity by verifying readings against manual gauging and investigating discrepancies
Diagnose and resolve faults on field instrumentation including Endress+Hauser, Emerson, or equivalent devices
Coordinate with the Operations and Stock Control teams on ATG alarms, system outages, and data reporting
Maintain instrumentation records, including calibration certificates, loop test reports, and equipment history cards
Perform loop checking and commissioning of new instrumentation installations in line with project scope
Mechanical Maintenance
Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, including mechanical seal replacement, bearing inspection, and coupling alignment
Complete valve maintenance activities, including actuator servicing, packing replacement, and leak testing
Carry out mechanical inspections of rotating equipment, including vibration checks, alignment verification, and lubrication in accordance with manufacturer recommendations
Assist in the overhaul and commissioning of mechanical equipment such as compressors, blowers, and agitators
Perform pipe fitting and minor piping repairs in compliance with terminal safety standards, ensuring the elimination of all types of leaks
Fire, Gas & Safety Systems
Maintain and troubleshoot fire and gas detection systems, including flame detectors, gas detectors, and control panels
Inspect and maintain fire fighting system seals
Implement process safety practices and procedures to prevent and/or mitigate incidents through the identification, assessment, and understanding of minor and major hazards relating to plant, process, and people
Operations & Asset Management
Be responsible for conducting inspections of equipment, not limited to pump house, tank farm, fire fighting systems, generators, MCC, UPS, loading gantries, ATG, and cathodic protection systems and own the examination of critical equipment rooms (IT Room, PLC, Generators, UPS, Pumps), ensuring detailed evidence of completion
Ensure zero breakdown on business-critical equipment and take full accountability for minimising downtime across all critical asset operations, ensuring the downtime KPI is rigorously challenged and delivered upon
Perform all daily activities and report/rectify failures and defects according to defect priority classifications, including daily checks on CCTV, lighting systems, and air conditioning units
Record all downtimes and breakdowns; conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and provide daily maintenance information to support improvement of the maintenance plan
Be responsible for the issuance of Work Permits for colleagues and contractors
Conduct surveys of all needs in the electrical area (parts, training, and tools) and report parts consumption to the Maintenance Supervisor to enable timely replacement scheduling
Analyse reports received from suppliers, site visits, and inspection reports; create action plans and scopes of work to close non-conformities
Carry out pre-use inspections before using any equipment and maintain proper records
Demonstrate the correct and safe handling of products stored at the terminal
Assist with warehouse organisation, inventory management, and workshop upkeep
Implement all corrective maintenance activities and assist in the activities of ongoing projects at the terminal
Carry out any other activities as requested
Projects & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with external Project Engineers on the execution of all new projects within the area of operations, ensuring accountability for an effective Management of Change (MOC) process
Provide support for project execution and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards
Promote initiatives that result in operational improvement or cost reduction, and identify opportunities for cost savings
Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ)
Follow all HSEQ legal requirements and maintenance tactics to ensure assets are safe to operate while contributing to the company's health, safety, environmental, and quality goals and risk reduction strategies
Issue Permits to Work and ensure all requirements are in order prior to issuance, and ensure Company HSEQ policies and applicable regulations are correctly observed during all maintenance and/or construction activities
Conduct routine safety inspections; report incidents, accidents, unsafe conditions, practices, and injuries to the Supervisor in line with the incident reporting protocol!
Participate in all safety drills, toolbox talks, and operations and safety meetings scheduled within the terminal
Maintain safety-critical equipment in good condition and take personal responsibility for own safety and the prevention of accidents
Inspect workplaces to identify potential hazards and follow all procedures and critical safety practices
Compliance & Conduct
Adhere to the Code of Ethics, Anti-Bribery Policy, and all applicable regulations established by the Company!
Complete all required training within stipulated timelines as communicated by HR, Talent & Development, or direct management
Actively participate in the coordination of IMAS L3, Maintenance BLA, and JIG Audits with the relevant terminal and maintenance leadership teams
Incorporate new policies and governance frameworks as they are implemented in the organisation
Customer service and financial performance
Improve operational efficiency to avoid driver queues at loading cranes at MFT and MBIT, and contribute to reducing loading periods by responding to operational needs timeously.
Maintain cordial relationships with all parties involved in the loading process, including Customs, SACOM, Ministry of Energy, Inspectors, SGS, MECTS, INTERTEK, GEOCHEM, and others
Reduce maintenance costs by 5% through process optimisation initiatives and identify additional areas to decrease expenses
Operations
Participate in maintenance meetings and complete all delegated activities within required timeframes
Resolve electrical, instrumentation, and automation problems effectively
Ensure all terminal assets receive proper maintenance and are available whenever needed

Education background
Professional Artisan Training, Technical National Diploma in Electrical/Mechatronic (required).
Millwright Diploma with extensive experience within Oil and Gas Industries (preferred).
Bachelor of Science / B-Tech degree in Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent will be an added advantage.
Experience
5 years' confirmed experience within maintenance.
Experience in petrochemical maintenance/operations will be added advantage.
Familiar with API and other industry standards and practices (preferred).
Familiar with HSE Standards
