About the role:
As a Process Operations Engineer at Scidell, you will play a crucial part in the day-to-day production activities, site construction, plant commissioning, and ongoing operations. Working under the supervision of the Process Supervisor, you will bridge the gap between practical plant operations and technical process engineering. You will be responsible for operating machinery, monitoring multi-stage chemical processes, managing operational readiness, and optimizing plant performance.
This diverse position is tailored to heavily develop your technical capabilities, setting up a clear career path toward process engineering design, plant operations management, or minerals processing project construction management.
Key Responsibilities:
• Process Engineering & Deliverables: Develop and review process engineering deliverables and technical systems ensuring they meet strict company engineering standards and industry best practices.
• Plant Performance & Optimization: Monitor and analyze production stages and overall plant performance; develop remediation plans for underperformance and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
• Equipment & Process Operations: Start up, shut down, adjust, and operate plant machinery safely according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Operational Readiness & Commissioning: Assist with development of operational readiness deliverables, site construction activities, technical training systems, plant commissioning, and startup.
• Process Control & Monitoring: Check, adjust, and maintain key operational parameters including temperature, pressure, flow rates, and chemical concentrations.
• Quality Control & Inspections: Conduct regular routine inspections and quality control checks on products and materials to ensure compliance with quality specifications, assisting with troubleshooting deviations.
• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Identify, troubleshoot, and address basic equipment malfunctions or deviations, and collaborate with maintenance and engineering personnel to resolve complex issues.
• Safety, Compliance & Records: Adhere strictly to the Site Safety and Health Management System, promptly report hazards, and maintain highly accurate records of process parameters, production data, and incident logs.
Key Requirements:
• Education: Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) or an equivalent relevant engineering qualification.
• Experience: Minimum of 18 months of hands-on experience working within a chemical processing, production, or plant engineering role.
• Technical Skills: Demonstrated experience in process monitoring, chemical plant operations, parameter adjustments, and troubleshooting technical systems.
• Adaptability & Autonomy: Proven ability to work effectively in an autonomous role, multi-task, manage time efficiently, and adapt quickly to changing plant environments.
• Location Flexibility: Previous experience working in a remote and regional location is highly preferred, alongside a willingness to work on site at Julia Creek.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication and relationship-building skills to collaborate smoothly with internal team members, laboratories, and external vendors/suppliers.
