Structural Project Engineer - Columbus, OH - JOB 26-00453 Salary Range: $100k - $120k Full-Time Permanent Position with Benefits A Columbus-based mechanical design/build firm to find a skilled Structural Project Engineer.
In this role, you will lead the structural design of complex industrial equipment used in air pollution control, including furnaces, boilers, incinerators, and pressure processing systems like autoclaves.
We are looking for a leader who can balance high-level structural analysis with team management, ensuring that every platform, support structure, and vessel meets the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Core Responsibilities Manage and mentor 2–3 direct reports, including Junior Structural Engineers and Civil/Structural Designers.
Plan and execute project workflows to ensure all technical, budget, and schedule requirements are met.
Produce complex engineering calculations and sketches for support structures, access platforms, ductwork, vessels, and industrial buildings.
Work closely with in-house Mechanical and Electrical engineering teams to create seamless, integrated system designs.
Develop equipment layouts, produce General Arrangement (GA) drawings, and approve all technical drawings before issuance.
Write scopes of work, evaluate bids, and manage outside engineering consultants to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Prepare purchase specifications for specialized equipment like prefab buildings, rotary valves, and conveyors.
Respond to RFIs from fabricators and contractors and lead internal/external design reviews.
Qualifications & Skills 8–10 years of relevant structural engineering experience in an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment.
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one state, with the ability to obtain reciprocity in others.
Advanced skills in STAAD (structural analysis) and AutoCAD.
Strong conceptual design skills, site development knowledge, and a proven track record in complex problem-solving.
Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
