SALARY $80,000 a year plus superannuation
DUTIES
• Examine food ingredients to ensure freshness, quality and compliance with food safety standards.
• Prepare, season and cook a variety of meals, including grilled meats, kebabs, rice dishes, salads and other menu items in accordance with recipes and business standards.
• Regulate the temperatures of grills, ovens, fryers and other cooking equipment to ensure food is cooked safely and consistently.
• Portion, plate and garnish meals to maintain presentation, consistency and customer satisfaction.
• Store food and ingredients appropriately, ensuring correct stock rotation and temperature-controlled storage.
• Assist in monitoring stock levels and advise management when ingredients and kitchen supplies require replenishment.
• Prepare meals to accommodate customer dietary requirements and special requests where appropriate.
• Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic work area in accordance with food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Work closely with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure efficient food preparation and timely service during busy periods.
• Minimise food wastage through appropriate portion control and careful handling of ingredients.
• Provide guidance to junior kitchen staff on food preparation techniques, safe work practices and kitchen procedures as required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Certificate III or higher in Commercial Cookery or a related qualification, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
• Minimum 1-year recent experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen or restaurant environment.
• Experience in Mediterranean cuisine, including familiarity with traditional Middle Eastern cooking techniques and flavours, will be highly regarded.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare and cook a variety of meals in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.
• Sound knowledge of food preparation techniques, portion control and safe operation of commercial kitchen equipment.
• Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Experience in maintaining stock rotation, proper food storage and minimising food wastage.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining consistent food quality and presentation.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house staff.
• Reliable, organised and able to follow recipes, kitchen procedures and established quality standards.
