Automation Engineer II
The Automation Engineer II will assist in the development and implementation of manufacturing and automation equipment / systems for new projects and equipment in operation while improving manufacturing methods / procedures in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in and lead project teams assigned in support of new projects to perform research, review, and develop manufacturing equipment and automation systems to maximize efficiencies, analyze layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods and work force utilization.
Support the fabrication, assembly, testing, and development of secondary equipment and processes, automation and assembly equipment, EOATs, fixtures, etc. which may involve internal design, specification, quoting, sourcing and management of external automation suppliers.
Develop documentation related to equipment and systems for standard operation, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting. Analyze and evaluate manufacturing methods / equipment to maintain state-of-the-art systems and provide solutions for problems that adversely affect cost, operator safety, productivity and quality.
Ensure execution of equipment tests and supporting validations per IQ, OQ, & PQ protocols, including the documented procedures used, test results and analysis.
Recommend and implement cost reductions in manufacturing to improve yield, reduce scrap, and increase efficiency.
Abide by all applicable SMC procedures and guidelines.
Perform other duties as required.
Essential Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in engineering and 3 years of experience; OR a two-year post high school diploma / certificate in a related field and technical trade and 5 years of experience.
Proficient PC skills in a Windows environment.
SolidWorks experience and ability to work from 2D prints and CAD details and review 3D solid models.
Understanding in reading electrical and pneumatic schematics.
Knowledgeable of PLC programs.
Demonstrated problem solving skills.
Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
Strong Team Player.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
Robotic programming experience.
Experience with vision systems.
Experience with lean manufacturing concepts.
ADA Requirements:
Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computer
Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about regularly
Lift, move, or otherwise transfer items up to 40 lbs. occasionally, >20 lbs. frequently
Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards
Travel by air or car frequently
