SQL DBA Engineer

This role will be responsible for the standard delivery and operations of SQL services supporting non-SAP applications. The SQL platform services include installation, configuration, database administration, automation, monitoring, capacity management, and lifecycle.

The SQL DBA Engineer will drive and execute on-going platform stability and maturity initiatives while also enabling operational efficiency. This will be done through the on-going development and execution of patterns for standard delivery and upgrades. And it will also be achieved through on-going automations.

This role is part of a global team who is responsible for the health, integrity, and security of key systems collaborating with the business. It includes escalation from and guidance to our partners who support the day-to-day operations of many of our platforms. It requires strong Operational Excellence and ITIL conceptual knowledge as well as support of large footprint.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Execute/Manage day-to-day operational support including backup and recovery of production systems and cloning of databases

Responsible for query analysis and performance and tuning recommendations including plan analysis, index recommendations, and database server configuration

Collaborate with application teams in the design and implementation of database schemas to meet business objectives & technical requirements

Provides technical oversight of Managed Service Providers ensuring delivery of SLAs, as well as identification of on-going continuous improvement.

Support for projects that follow existing standards.

Development of playbooks and technical documentation to ensure delivery is consistent and repeatable.

Lead and/or participate in various projects: strategic and operational initiatives.

Work closely with architecture to refine approaches for monitoring, capacity, and lifecycle management.

Lead and/or participate in developing service lifecycle strategy and roadmap.

Lead and/or participate in platform upgrades, capacity management efforts, and performance management and improvement efforts.

Operationalize disaster recovery solutions.

Execute improvements and optimization through Automation

Uphold and refine metrics and reporting to showcase achievement in delivery and operations.

Provides technical assistance to less experienced staff.

Assures quality, security, and compliance requirements are met.

Champion the resolution of technically significant issues affecting the platform through personal ownership and coordinate teams and stakeholders.

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

Five to Ten years of SQL DBA

Two years of SSIS and SSRS experience.

Microsoft Azure DBA Cloud Certification or practical hands-on experience

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

Experience in Backup and Recovery, Migration Concepts, Performance Tuning, AlwaysOn, DB Mirroring, and various SQL DBA topics.

Self-Starter that demonstrates extreme accountability- ownership and initiative.

IT Operations experience.

ITIL Certification.

Project Management experience

Experience working with a global team.

Experience in writing technical requirements and/or design specifications.

Experience managing multiple complex tasks/initiative spanning a variety of technology areas.
