SYSTEM ENGINEER

Job Description:

Experience 8 Years Location Frederick Maryland (Onsite)ROLE SUMMARYThe System Engineer is responsible for administration support and maintenance of Windows and Linux servers Windows-based enterprise applications and IIS Windows web servers ensuring availability performance security and compliance.

Key Responsibilites:

Administer Windows Server 192022) Active Directory DNS DHCP Group Policy Install configure and maintain Linux servers (RHELCentOSUbuntu) Perform OS patching upgrades vulnerability remediation and hardening Support Windows-based enterprise applications and perform deployments and upgrades Administer IIS Windows Web Servers including app pools bindings SSL and authentication Administer and manage VMware vSphere infrastructure including ESXi hosts clusters resource pools and datastores using vCenter ensuring high availability performance and scalability. Ensure platform resilience and compliance by managing backups snapshots DRHA configurations security hardening and supporting audits and operational best practices. Monitor system performance availability backups and DR readiness Troubleshoot OS application and web server issues Participate in incident problem and change management activities Maintain documentation SOPs and runbooksREQUIRED SKILLS Strong experience with Windows Server administration Working knowledge of Linux server administration Hands-on experience with IIS Windows Web Servers Experience supporting Windows-based applications Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCPIP ports firewalls) Familiarity with patching security and compliance standardsGOOD TO HAVE PowerShell shell scripting VMware or Hyper-V exposure Azure AWS experience ITIL process knowledgeSOFT SKILLS Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills Effective communication and documentation Ability to work independently and in teams

Role Summary

•The System Engineer is responsible for the administration, support, and maintenance of Windows and Linux server environments, enterprise applications, and IIS / Windows web servers. This role ensures system availability, performance, security, and compliance while supporting business-critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

•Server Administration

•Administer and support Windows Server (2012/2016/2019/2022) environments.

•Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.

•Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu).

•System Maintenance & Security

•Perform OS patching, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation.

•Implement system hardening and security best practices.

•Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

•Application & Web Server Support

•Support and maintain Windows-based enterprise applications.

•Deploy, configure, and upgrade application environments.

•Administer IIS / Windows Web Servers, including:

oApplication pools

oBindings

oSSL certificates

oAuthentication mechanisms

•Virtualization & Infrastructure

•Manage VMware vSphere infrastructure, including:

oESXi hosts

oClusters

oResource pools

oDatastores via vCenter

•Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance.

•Resilience & Compliance

•Manage backups, snapshots, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies.

•Support HA configurations and audit readiness.

•Maintain operational standards and compliance frameworks.

•Monitoring & Troubleshooting

•Monitor system performance, availability, and DR readiness.

•Troubleshoot issues related to OS, applications, and web servers.

•Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes.

•Documentation

•Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and runbooks.

Required Skills

•Strong experience in Windows Server administration

•Working knowledge of Linux server environments

•Hands-on experience with IIS / Windows Web Servers

•Experience supporting Windows-based applications

•Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, ports, firewalls)

•Familiarity with patching, security, and compliance standards

Good to Have

•Experience with PowerShell or shell scripting

•Exposure to VMware or Hyper-V virtualization platforms

•Knowledge of Azure / AWS cloud environments

•Familiarity with ITIL processes and standards
