*This role will service the Dare and Currituck County area - Applicant must have reliable transportation*

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for accurately providing occupational therapy (OT) evaluations, developing and implementing OT treatment plans, providing education and information, participating in required discharge planning, and completing all required documentation for patients according to hospital and department policies and procedures. The Occupational Therapist directs patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance, and to facilitate the learning of those skills and functions which are essential for adaption and productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.

Adhere to established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, and environmental and infection control standards

Plan a variety of sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities to provide occupational therapy to patients of all ages

Perform home health aide supervisory visits to the patient’s home when the aide is present to observe

Assist, assess the relationship of, and/or review care plans in order to determine when goals are met or to justify the need for continuation of home health services

Perform OTA supervisory visits as indicated according to state and national guidelines

Supervise the Health Aide when there is no Registered Nurse involved in care

Perform all aspects of the occupational therapy home visit

Consult with other members of the Comfort Care Team to select the most appropriate activity program for individual patients, based on patient needs and capabilities

Select appropriate activities based on individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest

Teach patients the skills and techniques required for participation in occupational therapy, and evaluate patient progress, attitude, and behavior on an ongoing basis

Prepare reports summarizing the patient's reactions to therapy

Design and fit adaptive devices such as splints and braces for patent use based on the patient’s disability and rehabilitation needs

Integrate principles of age-specific care into all aspects of practice

Initiate collaborative interactions with physicians and other hospital staff to improve patient care outcomes

Utilize work time wisely and efficiently, providing appropriate levels of care to patients

Meet productivity expectations and positively assist the department in achieving financial goals

Comply with OSHA’s bag technique and trunk supplies protocol per agency policy and procedure

Utilize hospital laptop while in patient’s home during visits to ensure accuracy of documentation and efficient productivity; synchronize twice daily

Documentation should include instructions given to patient and/or family, emergency measures received upon admission (i.e. post fall or other OASIS follow-ups), plan of care, patient’s response to plan of care, skilled treatments, and interventions

Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services

Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care

Education and Experience

Minimum Required Education: Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited school or a Bachelor’s Degree with 10yrs of experience

Experience: Previous Occupational Therapy experience is preferred, but will accept new graduates

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Applicants must have current licensure in the state of North Carolina, or be license eligible, in addition to having a National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy.
