Description:

Work with Asset Managers, Operations and Maintenance personnel, Project Managers, and fellow Performance and Reliability Engineering team members to identify, quantify, investigate, report on, and correct the root causes of sub-optimal fleet performance and reliability.

Perform (and/or manage third party consultants) in conducting Root Cause Analysis to determine primary reasons for major failures affecting plant operations.

Perform (and/or manage third party consultants) in developing Engineering Solutions to serial design defects while providing technical assistance to warranty claims processes.

Lead initiatives to develop engineering practices and processes that improve engineering quality, productivity, and results.

Coordinate efforts between Fleet Engineers, Asset Managers, and site technicians to develop and implement improvements to site performance and reliability.

Perform reliability studies using Weibull analysis of various equipment to predict failure lifetimes on major components.

Complete other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

U.S. Bachelor’s Degree or foreign academic equivalent in Aerospace or Mechanical, Systems, or similar Engineering discipline, or a related field, or equivalent experience and five (5) years of progressive experience with relevant engineering working experience, specifically in wind turbine blade composite materials design, manufacturing, and/or field inspections/repairs of wind turbine composite blades.

Special Skills Requirements

Industry experience and demonstrated working knowledge of equipment utilized in the renewable energy sector inclusive of utility scale wind turbines. Industry experience and demonstrated proficiency working in wind blade design, manufacturing of wind blades, and/or design of wind blade inspections/repairs. Industry experience and demonstrated proficiency leading Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action problem solving for mechanical components and/or Wind turbine composite blades. Industry experience and demonstrated proficiency to perform wind turbine blade damage dispositions, analyze failure modes within the blade fleet, support field repair crews while performing complex repairs. Industry experience and demonstrated proficiency with developing component or repair specifications and working instructions, and working with suppliers and/or contractors to qualify mechanical components or composite blade for purchase or repair, and to qualify complex composite repair design, methods and quality requirements. Industry experience and demonstrated proficiency in developing new and/or amending existing blade inspections and repair working instructions, and evaluating quality of blade repairs and reporting. Industry experience and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical topics to a non-technical audience. Industry experience with; Multiple wind turbine OEM technologies (i.e., Vestas, GE, Siemens, Gamesa, Senvion, or related) Multiple wind blade OEM technologies or types, including single-piece integral, structural shell and spar box wind blade structural configurations. Composites materials in wind blades, manufacturing processes and repair methods, including carbon fiber, fiberglass epoxy and polyester composites, and its application in design, manufacturing and repairs. Wind turbine blade sub-system component knowledge, including lightning protection systems, bolted connections. Data reduction, analytics and reporting, and databases. Blade damage classification system improvement, analyses of failure modes within the operating fleet, monitor and report on failure rates.

Travel Requirements

15% domestic travel to vendor and/or internal customer sites and attending conferences and meetings, with expenses paid.
