Job Description
Position: Grounds II
Location: Facility Services
Salary: Pay Grade 58
Term of Employment: Full time - 12 months
Reports To: Grounds Supervisor/Foreman
Job Goal: To develop and maintain school grounds, athletic fields, and drainage systems in a manner that will enhance the public image of schools and the instructional environment
Duties and Responsibilities:
Cuts lawns, trim and edges grass
Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth
Removes damaged leaves, branches, or twigs
Sprays lawns, plants, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides, using hand or automatic sprayer
Has knowledge of horticultural principles.
Conditions and prepares soils and transplants or plants seeds, seedings or bulbs according to instructions and planned design of landscaped area.
Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs following sketches and designs when available
Waters lawns, shrubs and flowers.
Performs ground maintenance duties, using tractor equipped with attachments, such as mowers, and snow removal equipment, and operates heavy power equipment.
Drives trucks and transports tractor and ground maintenance equipment
Operates heavy power equipment.
Makes minor repairs to mowers and other equipment.
Knowledge of safety hazards, rules, regulations and implements safety precautions.
Working knowledge of grounds keeping and elementary horticultural practices.
Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
Ability to follow simple landscape sketches and designs.
Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform medium/heavy lifting exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Special Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Must possess a valid drivers license
