Metabolomics/Lipidomics Research Associate
The Metabolomics/Lipidomics Research Associate will have experience in analytical chemistry, preferably in the space of metabolite and/or small molecule analysis using LC/MS and LC/MS/MS platforms. The Research Associate will perform targeted and nontargeted bioanalysis and assist with the development of novel methods to support the platform.
Responsible for the full spectrum of activities involved in metabolomics/lipidomics analysis as a member of the team, including the following:
Conceptualize, perform, analyze, and report experiments.
Perform mass spectrometry-based assays and studies focused on metabolite analysis of diverse samples from the biological matrices.
Laboratory analytical instrumentation routine maintenance.
Daily QA/QC, system suitability testing, method development, and validated SOP implementation
Develop SOPs.
Manage external collaborations.
Other duties, as assigned.
Requires a B.S. (0-2 years of experience) or M.S. (with 0-1 years of experience) in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field, preferably in the analysis of small molecules by mass spectrometry.
Broad understanding of metabolomics/lipidomics applications and biochemistry in the areas of systems biology, neurodegeneration, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer is a plus.
Experience with common sample preparation techniques is preferred but not required, including solid phase extraction (SPE), liquid-liquid extraction, and protein precipitation for biofluids, tissues, and cells.
Familiarity with core chromatography and mass spectrometry concepts, including principles of reversed-phase LC and HILIC, high-resolution/accurate mass strategies, structural elucidation by MS/MS, and isotope dilution.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with a proven track record of technical and organizational skills.
Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment and demonstrate attention to detail and record-keeping. Must demonstrate fully professional level requiring independent work in metabolomics research and development.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required for preparation of reports for management.
Ability to prepare manuscripts for presentation, publication in scientific journals, and regulatory requirements is preferred.
