User Experience Designer, FOLIO

This position requires a results oriented individual and works directly with the product owners, development teams, customers, and partners. The successful candidate will demonstrate and value the team’s core principles of integrity, innovation, collaboration, and flexibility, and bring an eagerness to engage in rapidly developing the right solutions.

You have a bias for action and create visual and interaction design (storyboards/prototypes, proof of concepts and content layout) and information architecture (site structure/organization, navigation/findability etc.) for FOLIO’s apps, modules and features that cover content management, content creation, reporting and resource applications. The ideal candidate should have an eye for clean and artful design, possess superior UI skills and be able to translate high-level requirements into interaction flows, artifacts, and intuitive and functional user interfaces. The UI Designer will be an integral part of designing our library facing platform, working closely with Product Owners, Developers, Stakeholders to bring innovative product designs to life that will directly impact the library’s key operations. Your success will be measured by your ability to shape pleasing and efficient designs enabling the development teams to run at peak velocity.

Primary Responsibilities:

•Collaborate with product owners, development teams, product management and subject matter experts in special interest groups to define and implement innovative solutions for the user experience

•Execute all visual and interaction design stages from concept to final hand-off to engineering

•Conceptualize original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex design roadblocks

•Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and sitemaps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas

•Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and key stakeholders

•Conduct user research and evaluate user feedback

•Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices and standards

•A track record of success as a UI designer with a portfolio that highlights your strong visual and interaction design skills and sensitivity to user-system interaction

•Solid experience in creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and sitemaps

•Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for rapid prototyping

•Skills at presenting your designs and selling your solutions to various stakeholders with a combination of humility, customer service, and expertise

•Abilities to solve problems creatively and efficiently

•You are up-to-date with the latest UI trends, techniques, and technologies

•You have a passionate commitment to and a sense of urgency for the support of libraries and their missions to support scholarly research and education

Preferred Qualifications:

•5+ years of UI experience

•Experience in enterprise wide work flows

•Proficient in visual design, interaction design and wireframing tools

•Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process

•BS/MS in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or related degrees

•Excellent communications skills

•A natural collaborator

•Internationalization and localization experience a plus

•Library back office experience a huge plus
