Salary: $75,000-$88,000

Position Summary

The Writer-Editor is AWF's lead editor and marketing writer, working across the organization to translate the impact of AWF's work and our unique brand value proposition into compelling, donor-focused content, publications, and storytelling. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Brand & Public Engagement, the Writer-Editor partners with colleagues across the Brand and Development teams to support the content needs of AWF's programmatic, fundraising, and policy teams.

The role oversees editorial standards for core institutional materials and develops content for printed materials and other channels. Products include the annual report, newsletters, special publications, editorial digital content, donor reports and proposals, and video scripts. The position functions as a cornerstone of editorial expertise, helping to ensure consistency, quality, and a cohesive voice across institutional materials that brings to life our role as the leading African voice for a people-centered approach to conservation.

Key Responsibilities

Provide editorial oversight, ensuring editorial quality and consistent brand voice and messaging across key AWF marketing materials.

Partner with the Strategic Communications team to develop and evolve editorial guidelines and best practices.

Work closely with representatives across AWF divisions to assess organizational needs and develop key marketing collateral (website updates, fact sheets, brochures, and other promotional literature) and ensure consistent, accessible, and high-quality products.

Lead development and production of AWF's Annual Report, newsletters, campaign materials, and marketing collateral.

Provide editorial feedback, copyediting, and/or proofreading for external facing editorial products produced across the Brand team.

Partner with team members to develop editorial calendars and ensure materials are created on time and to the highest editorial standards.

Key Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with coursework in journalism, editorial planning, and publications preferred.

At least 3+ years' relevant working experience writing in a marketing communications capacity.

Excellent interpersonal skills, able to relate to people from various geographic and economic backgrounds.

Superior writing, editing, and grammatical skills. Experienced AP Style writer and editor.

Familiarity with publications practices and related tools and software, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and AI tools.

Must be flexible, culturally sensitive, work well independently, and exude a "team" attitude.

Detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to multitask, handle multiple priorities, and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Ability to organize and present issues in a clear, concise, and logical manner.

Keen interest or experience in wildlife/land conservation and/or sustainable development in Africa preferred.
