Job Summary
The Tool Maker is responsible for building, assembling, repairing, and maintaining precision tools, stamping dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures used in manufacturing operations. This role requires strong machining and assembly skills, experience with stamping dies, and the ability to work within close tolerances to ensure high-quality, production-ready tooling.
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and GD&T specifications
Build, assemble, and fit tooling components including stamping dies, progressive dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures
Perform complete die assembly, disassembly, troubleshooting, and repair
Operate manual and CNC machinery (mills, lathes, surface grinders, EDM, etc.)
Perform die blasting (media blasting) to clean, refinish, and prepare dies for maintenance or production
Inspect and troubleshoot stamping dies for wear, alignment, and functionality issues
Perform preventative maintenance on stamping dies to reduce downtime
Work closely with engineering and production teams to improve die performance and longevity
Conduct precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and other inspection equipment
Maintain tight tolerances ( .0005” or better as required)
Document tool builds, repairs, and maintenance activities
Follow all company safety policies and manufacturing procedures
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (Technical/trade school preferred)
Completion of Tool & Die apprenticeship or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience in tool and die manufacturing
Direct experience with stamping die assembly and repair
Experience with die blasting / media blasting processes
Strong understanding of tool steels and heat-treated materials
Proficiency in blueprint reading and GD&T
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Skills
Experience with progressive and transfer dies
CNC programming experience
CAD/CAM experience
Welding (TIG/MIG) for tool repair
Preventative maintenance planning
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods
Lift up to 50 lbs
Manual dexterity and strong hand-eye coordination
Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise and temperature variation
