Job Summary
Battelle's Advanced Materials and Energetics Group is seeking to hire a Technician. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio.
The Technician role will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team focused on researching and developing the next generation of advanced polymeric materials for a variety of applications, including genetic medicines. This role will primarily support pre-clinical and clinical development of advanced medicines, including gene therapies, all the way up to commercialization.
The Technician role will lead and implement activities related to laboratory management and inventory management while also leaving flexibility to perform general laboratory experiments.
The selected candidate will support the synthesis, purification, lyophilization, sample preparation, and characterization of a broad range of materials, particularly polymer using a variety of standard laboratory techniques. The successful individual will demonstrate attention to detail, diligent laboratory safety discipline, and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
Proactively tracks laboratory inventory and orders laboratory supplies in anticipation of experimental and project needs.
Use computerized equipment and support laboratory information management system (LIMS).
Tracks equipment maintenance, inspection, and documentation.
Develops and maintains laboratory guidelines and procedures in collaboration with senior scientists and engineers.
Conducts standard as well as non-standard tasks under supervision and guidance from more experienced staff.
Operation of standard chemistry lab equipment to include pipetting devices, balances, pH meters, centrifuges, plate readers, etc.
Perform routine maintenance and operation of various laboratory equipment.
Understand and follow all pertinent Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Study Protocol requirements regarding all laboratory activities assigned.
Assist with the development of new SOPs and continuous process improvement initiatives.
Maintain laboratory with a commitment to safety with appropriate use of PPE, chemical storage, etc.
Key Qualifications
Associate degree in scientific discipline with 1 year of laboratory research and development experience; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
Exhibits sufficient technical knowledge to perform routine assignments.
Demonstrates the ability to operate basic equipment and follow standard procedures.
Ability to perform routine specified analysis of data.
Adherence to all chemical agent, facility, and bio-facility safety requirements.
Demonstrated ability to be organized, multitask, communicate effectively with a team, and a desire to learn new skills.
Able to work safely, quickly, and efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
Microsoft Office Suite experience, including Excel and Word.
Ability to work in a team environment and train other staff on standard laboratory procedures and practices.
Good communication and writing skills.
Must be a US Citizen to perform duties of this role.
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to the operation and maintenance of essential scientific instrumentation including but not limited to HPLC, GPC, DLS, FTIR, and NMR.
Experience with laboratory information management systems.
Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) in support of non-clinical studies.
Polymer research experience.
Experience with basic computer programming and/or coding (e.g., Python, Matlab, etc.).
