TITLE: CDL Operator

CLASSIFICATION:

**Full-time, classified**

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this classification is to operate heavy equipment, including, but not limited to, the boom truck and/or garbage truck, and perform manual work functions associated with construction, maintenance, and repair of City grounds, roads, and buildings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.

High school diploma

2.

Class B Commercial Drivers License

3.

Previous experience as a heavy equipment driver/operator

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

1.

Ability to maintain a Class B Commercial Drivers License

2.

Thorough knowledge of general maintenance, construction and labor tools, equipment, and practices; good knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in working with hand and power tools and operating equipment.

3.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to plan, organize, and effectively supervise the work of unskilled and skilled workers; ability to read and work from sketches, drawings, and work orders.

4.

Ability to perform strenuous and heavy manual work under varying weather conditions; ability to work under extreme conditions.

5.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public.

6.

Maintain a positive representation of the Roanoke Street Department at all times, in writing and while speaking with members of the community and/or other Street Department employees.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

The following duties are normal for this classification. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Specific duties listed may not be required for all positions within this classification but are determined by the normal requirements for the position.

1.

Operates boom and/or garbage truck requiring a Class B Commercial Drivers License.

2.

Operates and maintains equipment of heavy weight and considerable difficulty, specifically: front end loader, crane truck, Gradall, bulldozer, motor patrol, low boy truck and trailer, backhoe, road grader, trencher, track loader, and track hoes to assist in construction, maintenance, and repair work.
